we went there last feb and it was not to bad ,basic but friendly staff .. this year (first 2 weeks in jan) it went down hill the staff only catered for the Russians we sat waiting for breakfast first to sit down and the staff went to the Russians as they came to sit we waited 45mins and still no show so we left .. At night and all night it was so noisy with them arrogant ignorant bombastic ruskies singing and banging to 5-6 am ..And when you complain the staff just walk away like it was me at fault ..
The rooms were cleaned every day but we got dirty and soiled sheets and pillow cases .So all in all a crap hole full of arrogant ignorant bombastic ruskies..RANT OVER

Room Tip: don't do it

Worst hotel ever, been in a few in Goa, dirty, dirty, we had to buy bleach to clean the room, the toilet had stains inside and out, light switches were think brown stains, the bed sheets had stains on, the pillow had blood stains on, so many people walked out, others kept changing rooms, but they were no better. The reception staff were rude and no help, it was pay for this, pay for that, never again.

had booked in full knowledge that the osborne is a 2star hotel in calungute however, had to move rooms because of poor standard in first. second room was very basic but an improvement but that still meant that the fridge was dirty and in need of de-frosting, toilet in bathroom had a permanent leak which gave a fine spray from pipes 24hrs, lighting consisted of one main hanging bare bulb from ceiling (how bad was the 1st room?) not a nice environment to enjoy lovely goa. nevertheless the osborne has a high number of returnees who dont appear to venture far from zicos bar opposite an english breakfast bar round the corner and a sports bar in town,, get the picture? the staff are pleasant but weary, nothing like the the enthusiastic service we have encountered on other trips to goa. managed to find another hotel not far which we moved to after 4 nights. calungute was interesting and vibrant with great quirky bars and restaurants, just dont stay at the osborne.

Room Tip: do not whatever you do accept a room in block c

Stayed at the Osborne for two weeks in November 2013. Our first visit to India and we were pleasantly surprised.

At bargain basement prices and two stars we didn't know what to expect, but need not have worried. Rooms were basic, but clean. Staff were friendly and happy to help.

Location is excellent as the hotel is far enough from the main road to muffle most of the traffic noise but close enough to not be a pain to get around. It is a 10 min walk to the beach and about 20 mins to central Calangute.

Room was basic as expected, but clean (& cleaned every day) with air conditioning and a huge ceiling fan. Wet room was useful for daily decontamination after walking the streets!

Pool was clean and refreshing.

Didn't use the vouchers for the Hotel buffet, but did order lunch on a few occasions and the food was fine.

Yes, you get a firm Indian mattress and yes you get the odd power cut, like the rest of Goa! But it all adds to the experience!

Overall I'd certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a good value no frills B&B.

My Partner and I stayed at the osborne for 2 weeks from 1st to the 16th of December and i must say we were very impressed. This was our 1st winter sun holiday. The Hotel although a little dated (remember this is India) was immaculate the staff and service was second to none.On our arrival we were greeted by staff and shown to our room which consisted of a large living room a wet room (shower and toilet ) and a spacious bedroom all air conditioned.First impressions a little dated but very clean. The rooms were cleaned every day and clean bedding and towels provided.
We were given free food vouchers on arrival 3 each for the first week three each for the second week for the buffet meals which were Indian cuisine the food was delicious. The hotel entertainment was also quite good. The staff were there at your service constantly excellent manners and service.I must mention Johnny and Bitish who where there at your service thanks to these 2 members of staff being as lovely and as accommodating as there were this encouraged us to spend time at the hotel thank you both.We will be returning in 2014 but 3 weeks is a must.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a pool view

The rooms of the Osborne even by most average Indian standard hotels are poor, dirty sheets, thin hard mattresses, dangerous electrics and poor cleanliness. For me though the main problem was the noise, my room had a balcony overlooking the pool, outside the waiters would play loud music (often the same CD on a loop) on and off from 9am-12pm, apart from the music, most nights other holiday makers would sit pool side drinking heavily and making noise till often 5am, I don't know how many times I had to go out early hours to ask people to be quiet, it didn't feel safe having to deal with Leary drunks on a nightly basis, on occasions the waiters where also drunk and serving alcohol to others way after they where supposed to, often encouraging this type of behaviour. There are bars open 24 hours in Calangute, it really was callous, inappropriate behaviour to disturb others by constant sleepless nights.
The resort on the hole is a poor refection on what Goa has to offer, the beach at Calangute/Candolim, is dirty and crowded, and the constant hassle from hawkers and taxi drivers is the worst I have experienced anywhere in India, my advice would be to spend a little more and stay in a better part of Goa, it is basically a cheap and nasty place, attracting loutish and annoying people.

Room Tip: Stay away from any rooms overlooking the pools.

This was my first visit to Goa and I chose the Osborne in Calangute after being given 2 or 3 other similar hotels to choose from. I always try to be fair and honest with my reviews.

Location is pretty good - well away from the main road, which really is a bonus because this road typifies India's roads - chaos. The exhaust pollution is terrible and is compounded by the humidity and heat. I considered myself a mild asthma sufferer but my symptoms were magnified enormously when near this road. As you would imagine, there are few pavements and little by way of traffic management, so have your wits about you. The Osborne is located away from the main road. Also beware that tourist coaches are not able to drop off or pick up at the door - it's a fair walk with cases if the porters aren't around.

The Osborne is split over 2 phases, I was in Phase 2, block C on the ground floor. The room was poor. I can accept dated and aged fixtures and fittings. I can't accept poor cleanliness. If someone is going to go to the trouble of swatting an insect, please clean it off the wall! Also, the solution to dirty window panes and dusty frames is not to simply close the curtains - clean them! 5 minutes of a job.

The room was of a good size but poorly designed - no lamp by the bed for instance. In fact out of 6 lights in the room, only 2 worked. The lamp socket had a poor connection, so if you could figure out the right position, it did work. There were twin beds. The mattresses are 3 inches thick. Not good for those with bad backs.

The room had selection of dated furnishings and a fridge (very noisy).

The bathroom again was very poor. No attention to detail when cleaning. Dated, stained and poorly decorated. Window opening onto courtyard shared with neighbouring bathrooms - not a pretty chorus at times!

I didn't eat dinner at the Osborne but the breakfasts were simple but more than adequate. The reception staff and waiters are very helpful and friendly.

In all, it is a typical budget hotel. I saw other rooms and they were better by far than the one I was given. Perhaps I was unlucky but on the positive side, the staff are good as is the location.

Room Tip: Anywhere but C block ground floor
