Osborne Resort Goa
Ranked #39 of 116 Hotels in Calangute
Reviewed December 23, 2013

This was my first visit to Goa and I chose the Osborne in Calangute after being given 2 or 3 other similar hotels to choose from. I always try to be fair and honest with my reviews.

Location is pretty good - well away from the main road, which really is a bonus because this road typifies India's roads - chaos. The exhaust pollution is terrible and is compounded by the humidity and heat. I considered myself a mild asthma sufferer but my symptoms were magnified enormously when near this road. As you would imagine, there are few pavements and little by way of traffic management, so have your wits about you. The Osborne is located away from the main road. Also beware that tourist coaches are not able to drop off or pick up at the door - it's a fair walk with cases if the porters aren't around.

The Osborne is split over 2 phases, I was in Phase 2, block C on the ground floor. The room was poor. I can accept dated and aged fixtures and fittings. I can't accept poor cleanliness. If someone is going to go to the trouble of swatting an insect, please clean it off the wall! Also, the solution to dirty window panes and dusty frames is not to simply close the curtains - clean them! 5 minutes of a job.

The room was of a good size but poorly designed - no lamp by the bed for instance. In fact out of 6 lights in the room, only 2 worked. The lamp socket had a poor connection, so if you could figure out the right position, it did work. There were twin beds. The mattresses are 3 inches thick. Not good for those with bad backs.

The room had selection of dated furnishings and a fridge (very noisy).

The bathroom again was very poor. No attention to detail when cleaning. Dated, stained and poorly decorated. Window opening onto courtyard shared with neighbouring bathrooms - not a pretty chorus at times!

I didn't eat dinner at the Osborne but the breakfasts were simple but more than adequate. The reception staff and waiters are very helpful and friendly.

In all, it is a typical budget hotel. I saw other rooms and they were better by far than the one I was given. Perhaps I was unlucky but on the positive side, the staff are good as is the location.

Room Tip: Anywhere but C block ground floor

Having had a very poor experience at Ronil Royale moved to Osborne and were very pleased with this hotel.
Food, service and accommodation were excellent.
Entertainment mixed. Live traditional band and dancer excellent.
Not so other "pop" band.
Good pool. Waiters great.
10 mins walk to great beach

Hotel great, rooms basic but fine. Staff were excellent, couldn't do enough for you.

Had breakfast everyday, great. Had a buffet evening meal one night that was very nice.

Lots of places to eat round and about.

Taxis are cheap, got contact details if one if anyone needs them, would recommend a taxi from airport as tour operator bus was a nightmare.

Looking to return in the near future.

I stayed I this place I won't call it a hotel for 2 weeks in December , everything was out of order , most of the people working there were just after tips one day I arrived 1 minutes late for breakfast they charged me , and a pathetic breakfast toast and that is it , if you want a couple of eggs they charged you 90 roupees more expensives than london , they have a BBQ night once a week it's very expensive again and you only get a small plate of burned fish , they changed my sheets once in 2 weeks and never clean the room , plus if you want air conditioning they charged you over 100 pound what a joke don't bother staying there I just don't understand all the positives review , they must be fake

This was my first experience of India but travelled with friends who have returned for 13 years. The hotel was clean but basic which apparently is very typical. The room was large, adequate and clean. Towls and bedding were replaced daily. The staff were very friendly, trusting and sincere. The location of the hotel was just off the main road, so away from the dust and noise. The coach however did drop off and collect us from the main road, which was not a problem but something you need to be aware of. The pool and grounds were maintained to a high standard. Food was of a good standard and like the drinks very cheap. We anticipate coming back again and would certainly stay again at the Osborne.

i have mixed reviews of this place...let me be honest to say..i liked the property ..very well maintained swimming pool, breakfast buffet spread was amazing, good room size , bath room, nice location
This place has a lot of foreign tourists staying at the hotel
now the cons- staff is a not bothered......for the first time i felt like second class citizen in my own country...staff is more keen to attend foreigners...i had 3 rooms booked at the same time well in advance..i .was giving 3 rooms at 3 different floors...staff was indifferent to my request to move rooms, .. no room service, ala carte menu is very costly...staff was out off
