just read brians review yes the beer/water you could buy by the dozen at a good price as, for the hotel ,clean good staff exellent service, the entertainment was not as good as a working mans club turn at home but we do not go to Goa for this, some of the food we bought in the hotel was good some bad but with a british pallet and choosing Indian food is difficult but the chicken chilli was very good, eggs at breakfast toast porridge(butter) for toast not very good. All in all two couples over 60 enjoyed our stay in the Horizon the whole of the people who were there at the time got on very well and we made some good friends,as for taxis at the front of the hotel ask for ronnie but get the price before you go. see-read comments on resort in a day or so

We have just stayed for 2 weeks at the Horizon in Calangute and simply cannot fault anything about the hotel!!

The rooms are very clean and comfortable, cleaned every day with fresh linen, there is a well stocked fridge with pint bottles of Kingfisher beer for 80p and soft drinks for 40p. Even cheaper if you buy in bulk of 12 bottles which the hotel will stock up for you.

Breakfast is lovely with fresh eggs made to order and a variety of extras including mushrooms, baked beans, sausage etc.

The food in the restaurant is some of the best we tasted anywhere on Goa, they will even order in full lobsters with a days notice for £15!! Cocktails for £1.50 as well!! Restaurant has a range of specials each night which are always delicious.

There is entertainment on every other night, not our thing but good entertainment if that's what you want, various bands, themed nights, bingo etc.

The staff are all so friendly, all remember your name, favourite foods, drinks etc and all very personal.

The hotel has lots of taxi drivers that work for the hotel itself. I would highly recommend using these taxi drivers for your excursions rather than ones through your travel agent. We booked a few Thomas Cook trips for £30 each and found later in the holiday the cab drivers will do the same for £10 all in !!! The cab drivers are more than happy to drive you anywhere in Goa for a full day and wait anywhere for as long as you want all for approx £10 per day!! Their local knowledge is great as well and will take you to see local villages etc on the way to your excursions.

A family we met had their daughter taken to hospital during their holiday and Horizons manager took a bunch of flowers to the hospital and a few of the staff visited her with their wives. The hotel offered to keep their room open for free in case they couldn't fly home. All amazing gestures that I doubt you'd find in many other hotels!

Can't recommend Horizon enough!!

Be prepared for the slightly rough small road leading to the hotel but this only makes it better as it means the hotel is off the busy main road and very quiet !!

It was our first visit to Goa and the hotel was recommended - but we were very dissapointed. We arrived to a very noisy room - moved to an alternative, whcih was very poor in decor and on the main corridoor (so again very noisy), beds were very hard (but this is normal in Goa). Asked for extra matresses but they only had one. The staff were friendly but one staff member thought it was ok to watch the cricket in our room sat on our bed. Got the bill wrong for thr drinks we had from our fridge. Moved rooms again to a lovely room. Our fruit and wine basket (as it was honeymoon) went to the wrong room and then the hotel tried to cover this up. It was to be honest a shambles. Thomas Cook rep was helpful but seemed to feel that by offering us a financial reward we would be ok. On valentines night we decided to have the meal in hotel and was given RAW chicken which we sent back and was not offered an alternative. it may be just our experience but wouldnt recommend it. Goa itself was lovely and a unique experience.

Room Tip: Ask for the Top floor as this is where we were after changing for the third time and if we had been...

The moment we reached Horizon till we left after 3 days we had a very pleasant experience.
While checking in we were allowed to check-in a few hours before time since our bus reached early. That was a saver, else we would have to lug around our luggage till check-in time. The room was very clean, and the pantry attached to the toom had a nicely stocked fridge and other basics like coffee, tea etc. The items were not too expensive either.
The balcony offered a poolside view and was pleasant to sit in. The breakfast spread was quite decent too, and having it by the poolside was a good experience.
The location is very convenient...away from the bustle of the market yet very close walking distance from all shops and transport options, and also from Calangute beach.
The staff was very friendly and courteous.
To get all these things at such a reasonable price is a very good deal. I would say it is awesome value for money!

It was mine & my boyfriends first trip to Goa so we didnt no what to expect we just got back from here 12th April and we loved it so much we`ve booked to go back in December for 3 weeks.

The hotel staff are lovely, Our room 104 which was more like an apartment was spotless it was cleaned everyday with fresh towels everyday! Food was excellent. Swimming pool is very clean.
The beach was about 15 min walk but we hired a moped for 2 weeks which was about £2.30 per day bargain.

Cu all at Xmas :) xx

Second time to Goa therefore aware of the culture shock! The hotel is what you would expect for a three star. Don’t be too worried when you get dropped off as it’s down an unpaved road and you will probably wonder what the hell you are going into. However, nice surrounding on site. Basic rooms but a good size with no frills and requiring a good clean but the staff are brilliant which makes it difficult to go on about it. However, they will give the bathroom a clean if you ask them to. T.V had a bad reception but shattered by the end of the day anyway and you will get used to the extra thin mattresses. We arrived early hours of the morning and required a cot for our 13 month old son. The cot mattress required a good scrub on its arrival which completely discoloured the flannels I had brought with me, however, clean towels and bedding on request. The breakfast wasn't too bad and eggs were cooked to our liking with plenty of bread rolls, fruit, coffee, tea and juice if you wanted. The curries were to die for and always cooked for our palate ‘spicy’. I would recommend that you get a room that is at the pool side as it can be noisy with the generator early morning at the back of the hotel. Also, I recommend that you get a room away from the stairs as you can hear people coming in at night and going down for breakfast. If you require a safe for your personal belongs, you will need to bring a pad lock with you and the safes are free. We met quite a few people who stayed here who regularly return to this hotel possibly something we would also consider!

The Beach is a 15 min walk and would recommend that you take the Baga Road if you have a push chair or wheel chair. Everyone is really friendly and the beach shacks offer a wide range of excellent food and drinks which are so cheap. Have some fresh fruit from the fruit sellers as a full pineapple, sliced and bagged in front of you will only cost you 50 rupees. Don’t forget to barter with the guys on the beach as you can get some good deals, t-shirts, beach wraps, sunglasses etc. Although you can get pestered between every 3-5 minutes, pretending to be asleep usually works.

Restaurant kitchens are little to be desired but the food is wonderful and I am usually the first one to complain of a Delhi belly. Beautiful restaurant on the Beach called Souza lobos with excellent food and always quite busy after 20:00. However, didn’t find a bad restaurant during our stay! There are supermarkets close by but stock for baby food is very limited and expensive therefore I recommend that you take with you sachets and packets which are never a problem to get reheated. Happy Holiday! Gina, Nigel and Oliver.

Room Tip: A room on the pool side!
