Stayed at the Nizmar Resort 23/02-09/03, hotel is located off the main road so little traffic noise, however rooms facing out of the resort suffer from noise from local dogs etc. Rooms depending on which block you are allocated can vary a great deal. The first room we were offered was in the block above the resturant and overlooked the kitches, it was dark and in need of a lot of repairs. The entrance to the bock was also passed the bins, so not very pleasing The second room which we stayed in for the holiday was in block 6, much larger and in a better state of repair. Overall the room was clean with A/C, television, fridge and sitting area. Good 3 star standard so please if you are not happy with the room you are given asked to be moved.
This is the first year the Nizmar has been all inclusive and as far as the food is concerned I would say it is acceptable, the themed nights were very good the remaining meals had a good choice on the buffet.
The bar on the other hand was very basic, Fosters lager and local brand spirits on offer. If you wanted anything not covered by the A/I the costs were the same as outside the hotel so no discount as advertised if you chose premium drinks. The bar staff on the whole were helpful but as there is no money changing hands the lack of tips is not helping the level of service.
Pool is small for the number of guests and due to the A/I the number of people staying in the hotel during the day to take full advantage of the food and drink means a scamble each morning aat 08.30 for a sun bed. Only did this on two days and found the lack of any breeze meant the heat was uncomfortable.
External from the hotel is a bit run down but you are in India and the friendleness of the Goan people makes up for this.
The nearest beach to the hotel is about 5 mins walk away via the rear exit of the hotel, we visited this beach twice and on both occasions found it to be dirty at the waters edge and on both occasions found used syringes lying on the beach which had been there all day. The sunbeds were very compact and the local hawkers pestered you every 5 minutes with the full range of products or services.
As an alternative we hired a taxi and visited Mandrem beach which was picture perfect, no crowds, fantastic beach shacks Insperation a particular favourite. Taxi cost 800R for the day.
We also visited a number of other beaches in Pernem which were all excellent, Arambol being the busiest so you may want to avoid this one if you are looking for peace and quiet.
I will not list all the places we ate, I would just say we never had a bad meal and they were all terrific value for money.
We also had some dental work done and found this far superior to treatment in the UK and 1/3 of the cost.
As a final note this was our first trip to Goa but will not be our last. Tht Nizmar would be better reducing it prices and go back to B&B.

This being our 2nd time in goa, we had some trouble with our hotel that we had booked and thomas cook moved us into the nizmar, in a super deluxe suite, and it was super!! we were over the moon that had only payed a small amount for the hotel we were meant to be staying in and we were put in here - one of the nicer hotels in goa. It was lovely, staff were friendly, and helpful, and we enjoyed our stay so much we tryed to book it again for last year but was fully booked. For the prices that you pay it is well worth the money. the hotel food is lovely, although there are so many places to eat, i wouldnt bother taking the all inclusive option. the pool area was lovely, and the waiters were more the happy to bring us drinks and help move the sun beds!! The room was cleaned daily, and lots of clean towels were provided. Shower was a walk in shower(most are in goa), but clean enough and done the job. we had a sitting area with a tv, and a fridge and a balcony. and then we had the bedroom area which also had a balcony and an air con. both rooms had ceiling fans, which were always appreciated, but i would recommend leaving the air con on while out in the day as the fans are very noisy (take the plastic fob off the key ring and leave it in the slot by the door). i would definetly encourage people to stay here if they visit goa. enjoy!

We were so looking forward to going back to the nizmar after having such a fantastic first holiday there in november 2006.
The only difference is that the hotel has changed to all inclusive.

Big Mistake.
The standard of the food has dropped dramaticly since it was bed and breakfast.
Some things were not part of the all inclusive package but it was a bit vague what was chargeable.

The main pool area was looking very run down and was in need of a good clean up.
However the room we had was kept very nice indeed and was cleaned everyday.

A lot of the waiters were very unhappy with the all inclusive option as they are less likley to get the tips they used to.

A lot of the best staff have left since my visit in november 2006.
Valerie on the reception desk was most helpful as she usually is.

Please nizmar have a rethink on all inclusive and go back to what you did best bed and breakfast.

Hi all

This was our second visit to the Nizmar having stayed there in Nov 2006.

The big difference form 2006 is that the NIzmar has decided to go All Inclusive.

We were very lucky and managed to get a very, very good deal, however if we had paid as much as some of the holiday makers we spoke to we would have been very disappointed.

All the food is out side, buffet style.

Breakfast consisted of fresh pineapple, water melon.

Cornflakes (every day), assorted bread/pastries.

Canned pineapple/orange juice.

Various indian breakfast meals plus either sausage/bacon (not on the same day) beans/mushrooms.

Tea/coffee

A toast making machine that takes forever.

Eggs made to order, boiled, scrambled, fried, poached or omelettes.

Now there is only 1 chef on the egg making so this lead to a cue where you could be waiting up to 15 mins for an egg. (My concerns were noted by Valerie on customer services).

Snacks available throughout the day some chargeable.

Evening meals:

Saturday and Wednesday you had to book if you wanted to eat in the steak house, all other days were chargeable to the room!

The same was so for the Oriental gardens.

Every night was a buffet meal.

We ate out 19 nights out of 21.

Drinks ( my biggest gripe).

Bar open 11am-11pm (after 11pm drinks are chargeable to the room)

The only beer available is FOSTERS, if you would like a Kings or Kingfisher you have to PAY for them, so you travel 10 hours on a plane to go A I and the only beer you can drink is one than is readily available in th UK.

I hate the stuff and only had 2 bottles over the 3 weeks we were there the second was mixed with 7up to make a shandy.

Only local spirits are free, Bacardi is chargeable.

There is a water container where you are encouraged to refill your 2 complementary bottles of water, you can ask for bottles at the bar as well.

Soft drinks are included in the A I package.

The staff on reception are wonderful Valerie, Esha, Viola. If you have any problems they are only to willing to help.

Dataram was our houseboy and he left some wonderful 'towel art ' on our beds (see pics).

Mangeesh and Arun the two porters are great as well.

There seems to be a large turnover of staff and a lot of the waiters are leaving (or have left already). This in my opinion is because of All Inclusive, they are not getting as many tips as last year.

Tips are a major part of working as the average salary for a waiter is only Rs2000 (approx £25) a month.

The rooms are the same as last year one or two have had the A/C upgraded.

The toilet roll is still the 'kitchen roll' style of dimpled paper.

The pool area was clean and tidy.

I can highly recommend Mac Tailor in the Lobby, his cashmere suits are of the highest quality and shirts made to measure for £20.

Would we go back, Yes if B&B, No for All Inclusive

Please, please, please go back to B&B
