Joia Do Mar Resort
Ranked #30 of 125 Hotels in Calangute
Reviewed January 1, 2013

Flew into Goa on 22nd Dec 2012 to the land of the sun and sand ... The resort had arranged a pickup from the airport... although the hotel was only a 45 min drive away from the Airport it took us a good hour an half to get there.... It seems like almost everyone was heading to the baga - calangute area...
Anyways when we got in to the hotel our room was kept ready --- nicely done suite room... Overlooking the pool ...Very comfortable...
We decided to head straight for an early dinner before hitting the Mackies Night Market....
The food was just amazing at Masala Hut... I must say I have still to come across better food and value for money anywhere else...
The Mackies Nite market seems to be over hyped... it seems like all the local shops in Goa have taken up stalls here.. more geared towards the foreign tourist .. though must say that the stall owners are more than willing to give you a bargain deal as long as you talk to them in the local language and not in the English.... headed back to the hotel for a good night sleep...
The next morning we woke up to a decent breakfast buffet... the waiting staff was always at hand -- ready to serve -- (every day the menu had something different)
Since we were accompanied with kids our main concern was the FOOD --- but the chefs at Joia Do Maar took care of our requirements - the food was specially prepared for the kids -- it was almost like home cooked food.. just the right amount of spices and not at all oily...
Overall the resort ambience is lovely.. lots of greenery ... love the hammocks by the restaurant.
The service by the pool bar was slightly slow ...
Thank you Staff of Joia Do Maar for making our stay wonderfull ...
Tito's lane at Baga was buzzing till quite late at nite .. Fiesta is a must visit and so is Souza Lobo... The Ashwem Beach in North Goa is amazing ... water sports --- kids below 12 not permitted at Baga ... that was a downer for the kids who were all ready to go para sailing but had their parasailing hopes all washed away...
Flew back home on the 26th of Dec... not to forget -- take away Pizzas from Kudos on the way to the Airport... mouth watering thin crust ....mama mia Kudos...

Me and my friends had recently gone to this resort infact we went on the 21st of Dec 2012 for 3 nights. The hotel is located a good 10-15 min drive from baga beach and the market and mind you there is no netwrok in the rooms, the only place u get network is at the reception so if you ever wanna make a call you gotta walk to the reception to make it and sumtimes you might not get network there as well.

This place is cheap no doubt but it also lives upto the word cheap (on the bad note).
The staff are rude and the service is poor and they have an excuse for everything, for example on the day of check out they took 2 hours just to get 2 towels when we needed 5.
The Food out there is really good i would give it a 8 on 10 for that but as far as the service and hospitality goes i would give it a BIG ZERO.
on the day of our check out we were told that a chair in our room was broken which we did accept and paid them inspite of us not breaking it intentionally, 2 screws had come out and could be fixed at a small cost but we were charged a disgusting Rs1500 when the chair brand new must be for Rs500 inspite of us accepting it they would just be like you have to pay a NOMINAL charge, this behaviour and service and a way to treat a guest is utterly and shockingly disgusting, and take my word for it.
That done and paid for their cleaner comes and shows us a piece of table glass which he and they claim was broken by us in the room itself, and as far as we know we havent broken the glass. It must have been broken by the cleaners cause at the time of cleaning nobody was present inside the room. They charge us a NOMINAL charge of Rs500 so the total NOMINAL charge was Rs2000.
its disgusting how they can charge us for these stupid things, maybe the screw's of the chair were already lose, inspite of telling them this all they said is you'll have to pay a NOMINAL charge. No wonder the Hotel is deserted most of the time.
So before looking at this CHEAP and DISGUSTING resort or hotel or wtv it is called please be ready to pay a NOMINAL charge for sumthing you dint do. I think they will even charge you for a masquitoe coil.
Being a cheap hotel it lives upto its name of being cheap. It is highly advisable to find another hotel in that area and there are many more, but if you do end up there just go for its food and if u do stay there then best of luck with it.

we stayed there in december 2012 i found it good mainly because it was very close to baga n calangaute otherwise the resort has no activities going on of its own.the resort looks deserted most of the times.the food at masala hut is good but u can not sit there and relish the food because its open and mosquitoes annoy u soo much.same with the bar n nagila lounge mosquitoes r a big issue.
swimming pool is always deserted and it will look like a not so happening place.
Staff is friendly and property is overall good.

Room Tip: Take the room with the balcony

We stayed in Joia do Mar resort in Goa with a group of relatives and friends in the month of Sept. and found the place decently affordable for a quiet holiday. Our tour agent Viagoa.com gave us many options to stay in Goa & arranged for discounted air tickets as well . Joia ws selected coz of its Location. The resort is approximately 45 mins drive from airport located in the North Goa close to Baga and Candolim beach.

The premium property is set in the heart of Goa, designed to appeal your cultural tastes. The resort is near to all other amenities like Street market, Night market, shopping, Beach Shakes, Casino and Night club. You can also enjoy beach activities like Para gliding, Jet skiing, Banana boat ride etc.

Rooms in the hotel give you the feel of luxury. They were modernly designed, airy and all the furnishings were in place. Rooms were lazed by the balcony facing the neat and clean pool where we enjoy our morning tea feeling the gentle breeze flowing. Room service was at the par. Housekeeping was done daily at a set time in the morning. Bathrooms were spotless and hygienic with all amenities.

Throughout our stay hotel staff was very friendly and courteous. Waiters were also professional so their presentation was very elegant.

The resort has separate dining areas. If you want entertainment with food than Nagila Sheesha Lounge is the best place. In this restaurant they gives you ultra- comfortable divans and cushions, with lighting set low and a relaxing tone décor to please. We choose a sheesha from extensive range of exotic flavor. And the taste of food was yummy…. Finger lickin’. You can also enjoy pool bar where they serve alcoholic and non- alcoholic beverages with sun downing cocktail. Another restaurant is Masala hut which is Goan and Chinese cuisine. This restaurant has great Indian ambience with great Indian taste.

All in all we really enjoyed our holiday and the Joia Do Mar resort plays an important part in this.

had our review meet at this wonderful resort in north goa. we were about 48 pax in total and had the entire resort for us for a 4 nigh full board package. mohit and his partnet shivji along with the crew took utmost care for us. the food was splendid and the choices were good. the music, drinks, ambience were so good. the masala hut can be used as a meeting hall or dining hall or dance floor with bar. value for money and can be revisited again. highly satisfied and recomended.

Room Tip: All rooms are very good, maybe the ones overseeing the pool might be of interest.
