I had an opportunity to stay at this beautiful, pristine, serene resort from the 18th August 2012 to the 21st August 2012, it was our my wedding anniversary and I was looking for a nice getaway resort, but with a condition that it was in the North of Goa 9 Calangute ,Candolim belt), yet away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded Baga, Calangute streets. I had visited this resort for a show around, a year ago and it really was an experience to remember, especially Mr. Johnson ( General Manager) who I can describe as the pillar or the rock of Casa Severina.

We were totally taken aback with the hospitality we experienced at the resort right from check in to check out, every little detail was looked after. The experience was phenomenal,my wife had one of the most rejuvenating stays in a resort after a longtime, in fact this was well earned break for her as she herself is a pre -opening hotel specialist who is working on a project for a reputed upcoming 5 star hotel.

The F&B service was excellent, the food, especially the breakfast was well laid out and sumptuous to the core with a lot of variety. The housekeeping very diligent and hardworking,The front office associates very courteous and well informed, with a smile at all times.

I would rate this resort as one of the best for couples, to have wonderful, relaxing time.

Casa Severina is a quaint and charming place with a very old-world, cozy feel to it. We stayed here for 8 nights and overall it was a comfortable stay. For both of us it was a recurring trip to Goa so we were just relaxing and for that purpose it served as a great place.
The pool is really well maintained and clean. Although there should be a bit more relaxed timings ( only until 8 PM? it would be great to have a late dip into the water before heading for dinner)

Breakfast is ok, on most weekedays it was a very limited spread but on weekends when they had good occupancy ( this being off season) it was a slightly better spread. The muffins though are delicious!

The room and the hotel in general is very clean and overall it is a very romantic place with a charming ambience. Also, free bikes is a very cool add-on. And unlike a previous reviewer we didnot face any issues regarding borrowing the umbrella.

However we do concur about the front desk attitude. They do have a perpetual smile plastered on their faces but they are certainly always remnding about the payment (we innocently enquired about a taxi and we were told "it is charged" - without asking any details about our destination etc) Moreover, for each and everything, the front desk staff ( morning and evening) told us they need to ask their manager. We enquired about a spa in the proximity and the front desk receptionist again told us she will ask the manager and throughout our stay we never heard back from her. We ofcourse managed to find one on our own the same evening but we were left wondering if a first time visitor to Goa would ask them these questions it would not be very pleasant experience. The same holds true for enquiries about restaurants, we were told by the gentleman at the reception in the evening that he doesnot know the restaurants in the area because 'he is not from here'. For us this is an unacceptable answer since it is his job profile to recommend local places and assist the guests wherever he might be from.

About the restaurant- excellent and attentive staff there. However, they could do with some thoughts into their portion sizes, very meagre portions, but the food is delicious. But for the current portions you might have to order for three people if you are two people ordering.(and we had ordered soup, starters, main course and desserrts and we still found the portions to be slightly insufficient)

So overall :
The good: Ambience is a 10/10 very attentive but not-in-your-face staff which is just perfect for a cozy holiday.

Not so good: Indifferent and uninformed front desk and dismal food portions for lunch/dinner at the restaurant.

Room Tip: Pool facing

We recently had a 4-night stay at Casa Severina in July 2012 after booking online a matter of weeks before. Being the Monsoon season, it was not terribly busy, however the many staff were exceedingly attentive, friendly and accommodating.

Casa Severina is a unique, colonial-style boutique hotel - exactly as described, with immaculate rooms, decorated beautifully and spotlessly clean. The exterior of the resort is well-maintained, as it was the Monsoon season the outside benches and decorative statues were in protective coverings, so we were unable to see the resort in its full glory. But this only highlights the management's pride in the presentation of their establishment.

Our room was cleaned daily, with our amenites replenished throughout and fresh towels brought daily. The room really was spotless, we have stayed in numerous hotels across
Europe and Asia and this was by far the most clean and comfortable.

There is a good-sized, private and secluded swimming pool which was clean and we were even given towels which was a nice surprise.
The hotel has a small restaurant serving cuisine from around the world, including traditional Goan fare and well-known Western dishes (which was a welcome relief after a few days of curry!). After 4 days I feel confident in saying I have tested most of the Indian dishes on offer and the standard was consistently high and of very good value for an establishment of this calibre, with dishes between 100-200 Rupees (more than half the price of similar dishes in Mumbai & Delhi). I would recommend the Goan Potato Bhaji and Chicken Cafreal. In addition, the waiting staff were attentive, professional and polite.

We were offered the opportunity of going on a selection of tours around Goa (details were on a sheet in our room - there was absolutely no hard-sell), of which we chose the 'South Goa' option. This consisted of an AC-car and driver who took us to Old Goa, to see a Catholic church, followed by a Hindu temple, a tour around Spice plantation - I would highly recommend for anybody with even a slight interest in cooking or homeopathy - which included a surprisingly delicious, fresh Goan buffet. We are not normally the type to go on tours, but this one seemed interesting and we had a great time.

During dinner on our 3rd night, I developed a serious toothache, I asked the manager if he knew of a dentist nearby that would be able to see me the next day as it was our last day before moving on to Delhi. He immediately made arrangements for another member of staff to call a dentist (at 10pm) and successfully scheduled an appointment and car to take me there. This was obviously above and beyond the call of duty and drastically improved the remainder of our trip.
Casa Severina comes highly recommended by us, I imagine it would be absolutely perfect in the drier months and we hope to be able to visit again in the future. 10/10.

The hotel is stunning. I was part of a travelling group of 8 friends and family (3 from UK & 5 from India), and we finished our 3 week trip around India in Goa. We stayed for 3 nights and had a great time. The hotel is so clean, extremely comfortable rooms, fantastic food and great location. We stayed in 4 rooms (3 different types) and were all great. The breakfast buffet is vast and tasty, has both western and Indian food. The pool was also great, the whole hotel is well maintained and I wouldn't hesitate in returning here, and I highly recommend this hotel to everyone. During our trip around India, we stayed in many hotels, and this one was by far the best. Can't wait to return!

And that friends, sums up my feelings for Casa Severina. But then that's not fair to them. Severina has some good things, and some not so good. The good include a beautiful location. Calangute in north Goa is a happening place, and yet Severina is just the right distance from the crowd. So full marks location. Also full marks to the place itself. The place is lovely, rooms are nice and well maintained, at least the upper floors. Its small, the way we liked it, compact, quiet, etc. etc. You can sit in the common spaces and spend the entire day reading or doing nothing, with no one to disturb. The waiters were attentive, friendly.
The not so good part? Arrogance and indifference at the front desk, which basically translates into the arrogance of the owners and their attitude to their guests. We had paid 50% of our four night stay through bank transfer. On reaching the front desk, the first demand was to pay the balance, right there, right then, right now. Forget about taking the weight off your legs and having a sip of water first. Thats how the girl at the desk was trained, and thats how she behaved, albiet with a smile. The attitude continued throughout. It rained, but we were not allowed to take the umbrellas out of the gate for a walk. No sir, the management policy is not to allow them out of sight. Why? Don't ask, I don't know. *sheepish smile*.
Now the food. There is an apology of a restaurant. The breakfast is average. Rest of the food, if you decide on eating, is also passable. Don't get excited though.
So, would I go back?
No. there are equally good or better places to stay.
Would I recommend it?
Yes, Inspite of the irritants, its a beautiful place, laid back, and quiet. They just need a better Attitude.

Room Tip: upstairs. the view is better.

Everything was so wonderful about this hotel!! The old European style of this place is mindblowing. Each and every staff and the manager John were extremely nice and friendly .
Can't help but mention one staff: Lou, he's a master in towel art!! Super talented, be prepared for the surprising towel-made shapes which he makes during room cleaning. He can literally make anything with the towels. Another staff Prasenjit also was very helpful and friendly.
This place is totally recommended for couples!!

The overall experience with Casa Severina was awesome. We checked in 9th of August 2012 and checked out on 14th. We had a warm welcome with welcome drink and wet towel. The receptionist was very polite. Initially she assigned us a room in the ground floor. We asked her if she can get us a room in the first floor pool side. At first she couldn't find any but somehow managed on in the first floor pool facing. The room was spacious and the bathroom was clean and tidy. We booked a junior room which had all the necessary amenities. There was also a mini bar but it was chargeable. Two complementary bottles of mineral water was server every day. Just note don't drink the water from the tall (Aqua) bottle as its not complementary. Drink water from AQUAFINA bottle. They will charge Rs 50 for that 1liter Aqua bottle.
The complementary breakfast as simply great. There was huge choice starting from Indian(both north and south) to continental. We ate a lot... :)
The pool was also nice and clean.
The best part was all the hotel staffs were very polite and courteous. Generally hotel staffs in Goa show huge respect to the foreigners but not Indians. But here is Casa Severina every guests were treated equally. I personally liked this very much.

The hotel is just 5 min walk from the nearest beach. That beach is not the main Calangute beach. To reach the main busy area you have to either hire a cab or take a (Panjim - Calangute) bus or hire a bike. It just takes just 5 to 7 mins to reach there.

I'll surely recommend this place to everybody and will surely come back again.

Room Tip: Ask for the room in the first floor facing the pool. ONLY drink water from Aquafina mineral water bo...
