“wonderful 3 days @ raman”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

this was a find, what an amazing place. i had been there in may 2012 for 3 days and had the best stay ever in goa. in the past i have stayed in more plush hotels but this one has a character of its own.
Pros - right next to baga and calangute - the most happenin place. plus close to anjuna
- bike hire just outside. (wud suggest to walk upto the titos main road for cheaper deals)
- restaurant has a brilliant view
- u feel ur at the beach 24*7
- staff doesnt disturb at all, a nice cozy den

cons - aaaaaaaaaaaaa (cudnt find one yet, except the shower is pretty amusing.)

Room Tip: i stayed at the beach room. its a cool one, better than the pool room. i think the dome is to chec...

On the advice of a friend (and other reviews) I was supposed to stay here for 5 nights in April 2012, but only lasted one night. To be fair, the grounds are wonderful and the pool looks beautiful, but if you enjoy certain amenities that you find at standard hotels, you will not last long.

Firstly, I sent an email via their website to book a poolside room and got no confirmation. Then I called them and Manoj, the manager said it was no problem, my poolside room was booked (this was 2 weeks before arrival). Then my friend even went and checked the booking, all well. Except upon arrival there was no poolside room booked for me and all they had were the beach cottages.

I accepted as had no choice and this was about the worst night I have ever spent in a hotel which I liken more to camping. No screens or mosquito nets meant horrible bugs all night, the fan screeched too loudly to have on, the bed was basically wooden slats (VERY hard) and the worst was the shower - they installed it too high with too little water pressure to clear the taps below, so you had to lean over the lower taps to catch the trickle of water.

Then the stray dogs were howling all night and by 330am the roosters took over. Hardly enjoyable.

For me, not acceptable, I suppose due to the fact I don't like to pay for a hotel that can't meet my basic needs (good shower, good bed, no bugs). I went down the street to a basic, clean hotel also almost on the beach for less money.

Nice beach front property. Cottages are built on the beach extension and you have the restaurant on the sand. Friendly and courteous staff.
Neatly maintained kitchen. It is little more than one hour drive from Airport and is located on the main beach. They have a small pool.
Highly recommended if you are looking to stay in North Goa.

Room Tip: We stayed in the beach rooms and room size was just okay.

Traveled to Goa in Feb 2012.... stayed at Raman Goa - Baga... its an experience which can not be told the resort being right there on the beech but hidden from all the commercial activities.... staff was fantastic and very friendly and helpful. The resort itself feels like a beech... rooms were clean with clean bathrooms... stayed at Beech Room. Whenever will visit Goa again will stay here only.... Can go with Kids and family aswell

Room Tip: Beech room gives you a better view as well as its away from rest of the resort.

As soon as u'll enter this place, a sense of tranquility and peace will dawn upon u. its like a South Goa resort feel in the midst of North Goa. its location is a ten on ten, u start walking from your cottage or room and within a minute u'll reach the beach. the staff, Mr. Mukesh and others, are very helpful and friendly. the owner of this beautiful place, Mr. Manoj accepted our booking on phone and was extremely kind. Our initial plan in Goa was only for 4 nights, but we extended our stay to see the carnival. meanwhile we looked at other places in Baga and Calangute, but just cudn't find anything even close to the beauty of this place. the rooms are decent, with limited amenities, and it gives one a home like feeling. the property is so huge that easily the number of cottages could be doubled, but will quote Mr, Manoj himself who said.. " there is a difference between need and greed." i think thats the reason this place is so warm and exclusive. i totally recommend this one :-)

Room Tip: the pool facing rooms are very nice.

Ramans was a lovely find for us in Goa. It was recommended by a friend and boy are we glad.

First things first; its in north Goa right between calangute and baga. Perfect if you want to spend a holiday on the north side. The resort itself is not massive but a small collection of rooms that are well spaced out. You can walk right to onto the beach from your rooms through the restaurant; if you fancy a dip in a pool they have very clean and nice pool at the resort itself.

Bookings are better done calling Manoj and you will not find a tariff on the website (at least we didn’t when we booked). That being said a couple of mails exchanged serve the purpose!! The staff at the resort are a true reflection of how we work in India  diverse backgrounds and accents and a smile to get you going. Suffice to say Hindi and English are enough to get all you want.

Get to the resort and look out for Mukesh (from Bihar) who manages the rooms and also doubles up as a liaison for vehicles you may want to hire and maps etc. Naik (from Karnataka) and Maithi (from Bengal) complete the national integration in the restaurant/resort and will do all they can to get you going from the kitchen. Naik also is a decent masseur.

Getting around is best done on bikes (read gear less scooters) you can hire for about 200-300 a day or a self driven wagon R for about 900-1000 bucks a day. Just keep in mind they will come to the resort with a pretty dry tank and you need to buy fuel from the many shops on the baga-calagute road displaying the fuel in old water bottles. Don’t miss the night market at Arpora on sat night (weekly) for some clothes food and motley crew of people. There’s another flea market at vagator beach on Wednesday (we missed it) apparently for real deals.

Food is not really a problem from local Goan to European food. Try the usual hotspots like Brittos and Lila café and failsafe is the restaurant at Ramans of course. If you want to boogie try Titos. All these are in a radius of 5-6 kms. If you want to see some old forts and the south side with the old churches etc please get a map beforehand an pick and choose as travelling between the north (read beaches parties etc) and south (more pvt beaches and architecture) can be time consuming

I’d definitely like to go and stay there again

Tips: Manoj stays on the resort and is there to help anytime. Brittos is a walk from the beach side (1.5Km). Get your cab from the airport outside at the pre paid counter against within the airport. Pre paid from outside will be about 1300 to Calangute

Room Tip: Try the rooms closer to the restaurant-beach facing. You can hear the waves all day and night :)

Was looking to stay at this one for quite a long time. Booked a cottage on phone ( no requirement of any advance payment, which was a very pleasant surprise) & landed up with all the bags & baggages. The resort is located in a calm & silent lane close to calangute & yet is well known & easy to find. In addition the direction given by the owner was perfect & there was no problem whatsoever in reaching the place.
Upon reaching the place the cottage no 13 was reserved for me although I would have preferred the other 2 cottages but the same were all sold out. The check in was a little problematic though with the staff insisting on getting the photo identity card of all the residents. This was a little weird cos in all the other places only the photo id of the lead resident is sufficient. Thankfully my wife was carrying her photo id too & so after the initial hiccup we settled in the cottage.
Accommodation:
The resort has various categories of rooms though the cottages are the most pricey & also the best ones. The Octagonal cottage that was given to me was quite modest in size, however the setting & the ambience was extremely appealing. The bathroom was also very small but the fittings worked well & it did not cause any major problem as such. The bed was comfortable & the linen fresh & neat & clean. Although the toiletries provided could have been better.
Resort:
The resort is laid out in an extremely charming & gorgeous manner with liberal use of clean sand. It gives the feeling of staying right on the beach in a very comfortable setting. The cottages & the rooms are well spread out & the landscaping is marvellous. Having stayed in a number of resorts in Goa I found this one to be having a typical Goan character & loved it immensely. Chairs & tables were set up in an extremely charming manner at various places in the resort. The beach was also very close to the cottages & moreover with the cottages being located on sands it felt as if staying right on the beach. Hats off to the person who has conceived & designed this resort. Well done man.
food:
A major area of concern. Did not like the food at all. Infact had prawns butter garlic the first day & had an upset stomach almost immediately. The rice & the noodles were all very oily & had practically no taste. The breakfast was also meagre.
Service:
Another area of concern. The staff was extremely discourteous & talked in first person (tum, tumko) with the guests. I did not appreciate it at all. The most courteous of requests were answered with an argument. In fact when I told the restaurant guy regarding the upset stomach he started laughing & told that most of the people have it when they visit goa for the first time. Awful. Another problem was that the restaurant closes sharp at 10 in the night & not a single service person are visible after that. I had a horrid time in getting warm milk for my baby on the first night. Thankfully the night chowkidaar went to a nearby shack & got it for me. I also noticed that the bed loungers of the resort on the beach was occupied by the staff most of the times & they did not move until specifically asked to do so. I also noticed that the staff were fleecing their guests in arranging for the motorcycles & the taxis for their guests.
Overall experience:
I would love to be back again. It is a gem & so I feel saddened at the way its going downhill solely because of the attitude of the staff. The owner must take notice of this so that the resort realises its true potential & becomes top notch.

Room Tip: The cottages are the best.
