Lambana Resort
Ranked #33 of 117 Hotels in Calangute
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Located at the top of busy Baga Road, just 200 yards from the roundabout in Calangute, this hotel has about 27 rooms over floors 1-3 with ground floor taken up with Reception & front and rear bar/restaurant areas. There is no lift so those who may have difficulty with the stairs should seek a lower floor room. Regulars to Goa will understand when I say this is a typical North Goan hotel at the low-mid price range but it is the best run place we've ever found in the area (including hotels nearby that cost much more) & so it will definitely be our hotel of first choice if we return to Goa. First timers should note that it's not the Ritz but if the Ritz is what you want then don't come to India or at least not to North Goa!

We had been concerned about noise from the busy road just 5 yards away so stated a preference at booking for a pool-side room but there are only 6 of these (6 face the road & 15 face the sides) and on arrival we were placed in a side room. With the a/c and fan running, we were never bothered by road noise to any great extent and when we were given the chance to move after a few days, we declined as the side rooms are quite a bit bigger.

All rooms and en suite shower rooms are a good size& balconies are unusually large - enough for a table & several chairs - side rooms are particularly spacious. Views are not wonderful but that's the norm in the area except at top-end hotels but we enjoyed sitting watching the world go by along a side road. As the hotel was renovated only 4/5 years old, the internal decor is good (for India) & very clean. The rooms are well equipped with sturdy matching furniture (no plywood & formica!); single beds pushed together with one large typically firm-hard but not lumpy mattress (often lumpy singles are used); blankets were useful as the a/c was very efficient. Water pressure & tempterature were exceptional 24 hours per day in both shower & sink (bring a universal plug for the sink). Additional room facilities include a/c & fan, TV, minibar (at no premium), kettle, coffee maker (bring your favourite tea if other than Tetley - & ground coffee); low level courtesy light, loads of coat hangers & storage space for suitcases.

The pool area is compact (there are no gardens as such) but adequate & proudly kept very clean even at the end of the day. There are plenty of sun beds & umbrellas with all areas getting some sun & shade during the day. Lunch & evening food was good with a wide range of local & European food options at reasonable prices - beer & spirits for example are about the cheapest in the area but there are dozens of fantastic restaurants within easy walking distance. Breakfast was average & often cold but a reflection of how much the staff are looking to improve the place is that on our last day they bought equipment to keep the buffet breakfast options hot. Complimentary eggs were always cooked to order.

Perhaps the greatest praise we can give is for the efficient running of the hotel & its wonderfful staff who are the friendliest we have come across in a place that's noted for friendliness. From reception staff to waiters to pool boy & room boys, everyone has a smile to lift your spirits and it's clear the staff enjoy working here. Nothing is too much trouble & any faults were resolved within minutes (as when our a/c broke). Rooms are cleaned as often as requested. Safe deposit boxes (50R pd) are reassuringly under dual control & available from 9 til 9. There are loads of money exchanges within 200 yards in either direction - take sterling cash for best rates & no commission but T/Cs also accepted (hotel takes credit cards but many places do not) - there are ATM's in Calangute & a new one 800 yards down Baga Rd. We were able to keep our room until we left for the airport on the last day at very reasonable cost (under £10).

In summary, a wonderful little place that serves mainly Thomas Cook package customers and one or two Russian & Indian tourists. If we could make just one minor suggestion it would be that a no smoking area could be observed as most guests when we were there smoked. First timers should be aware that the road is very busy so take your courage & patience in both hands - they have started to build a pavement along the whole length of Baga Rd and it should be completed up to this top end during the coming close season.

Room Tip: Side rooms are larger. No lift.

This is the 4th time we have visited this hotel and there have been several changes over this time.
Thanks to the following members of staff who without these the hotel would be a complete shambles.
Reception - Melissa and crew
Housekeeping - Sagun head housekeeper and his crew
Waiters - Raj and Peter
Pool boy

Reception area - excellent
Rooms - very well equipped and kept very clean
Pool area - very clean, but some tiles missing and broken, sun lounges and parasols in need of repair/replacement

BREAKFAST

porridge, cornflakes, watermelon now included.
The breakfast is now buffet self service and should be available as previously reviewed from 7:30am till 10:30 but not always on time. Breakfast is not covered and quite often cold. Not enough tables for guests at busy times in the breakfast area.

BAR

Two televisions and very loud music on all day and evening. The tv seems to be there for the convenience of the staff as they spend most of their time watching tv and ignoring the guests. (apart from Raj and Peter).

FOOD

The menu has been amended/extended, prices increased. Unfortunately the meals and the presentation is now below standard.

The hotel is not now of the same standard which it was, it does need decorating especially to the rear of the property, furniture needs repairing/replacing and newer members of the staff need training or at least to do some work instead of watching TV.

Final note: Good to see J and M and M,J and J again (guests that were there last year).

We stayed at the Lambana from 14th Feb for two weeks,me the wife and fifteen year old daughter. The Lambana is in a great location on the Madness that is the Baga road, anyway we found the hotel to be really comfortable could do with a lick of paint here and there nothing major though, the beds were comfy shower/wet room really good, the pool area was always clean & tidy and the lad who worked round the pool area really good making sure everybody had a sunbed & towel. The breakfast pretty good and excellent service and all the staff really good from reception to bar staff and waiters oh nearly forgot security man as well, don't know what some people expect from a two star hotel in India but we were very impressed and would defiantly go back.Oh and the Baga road really crazy if like us it's your first trip to Goa it's a great introduction to Goan life.

Room Tip: From what I've heard pool view rooms are quieter, but we were round the side and had no problem s...

This hotel is very tired and is in desperate need of re-decorating.
Excluding the service delivered by Peter, Raj and Malisa. The service was very very poor, the waiter's more intreasted in watching the TV or chatting at the bar..... you got a drink if you went to find them.
Breakfast is advised at 7 till 10.30 - We were still waiting for a cup of tea and bottle of water at 8.15am. This was not a one off, we stopped expecting breakfast before 8am - unless Peter or Raj was working.
The hotel is clean the house keeeping manager and his second in charge are very good. Any problems they will do their best to sort it. The swimming pool is kept lovely and the chap is very attentive.
We went back there as we were so impressed last year - will we go again afraid not.

Room Tip: go to another hotel

Back from Goa - this was our first time, stayed in the Lambana Resort, situated on Baga Road, which seems to be the vibrant hub of the whole town, both sides of the road crammed full of shops, stalls, bars, restaurants, etc.

On route to the hotel we were told by our rep that most beds in India are as hard as rocks; how true, our bed though hard, was surprisingly comfortable. and large walk in shower(wetroom) with hot running water. The mini-bar fridge was stocked with water, soft drinks and beer and was replenished every day when the room was cleaned.

The beach is only a 10 minutes stroll away from the hotel.

Over all the Lambana is a small, very friendly hotel, that is clean, with air con in good location, very professionally-trained, and they all spoke English greeted us every morning with big smiles and morning chats (Peter, Raj and Isma), ready do to get what every form of egg (fried poched scarmbled) we wanted that morning and a large glass of orange Juice and coffee. Melissa on the reception desk, was a delight and knew us the mintue we walked in from the beach key in hand for us. also not to forget all the cleaning staff, the bar staff, the pool attendant, the security guard on the gates (keeping out beggars and hawkers) and others (whose names we didn’t know). They couldn’t do enough for us, and always with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble.

I will not bore with places to eat, all I will say is that they are that many, so just go for them, it is India try it, we had a fantastic time, perfect weather in January and so cheap you can do anything you want. I can see why people go back year after year but we like to try different places.

Thank you to everyone we met both locals and tourists for a great holiday.

Room Tip: It a small hotel on a noisey road, so the quiter rooms that over look the pool are limited

A really friendly, small hotel. The staff are fabulous - they created some fantastic towel art during our stay - including a full size father Christmas ! We are regular visitors to Goa and although we tend to spend most of our time in Candolim, we will have already booked to return to the Lambana next year. The hotel is clean, excellent air con, modern bathrooms and a really good breakfast selection.

Room Tip: Yes, the rooms at the back are quiet, however the other members in our party stayed at the front and...

We have just returned from the lambana resorts goa. We had a great hoilday . We visit goa every year. This hotel was very clean rooms cleaned everyday if wanted. Pool area very clea the pool boy is very busy and thr pool and pool areas are cleaned everyday and he certainlt looks after you whilst at the pool. the room we had was overlooking the pool and we could not hear any traffic at night. However if you had a room at the front i suspect it would be noisy.the staff are very accomodating and will get you anything you require. breakfast was excellent and there is a geat choice on the menu. It is in a very good location 5mins walk to beach. Would we stay at the lambana again most definatly. We have been to goa 8 times and most happy with this hotel facility and services
