We had a room with private verandah looking across the palm gardens to the sea. In the evenings it was wonderful to sit watching the sun go down. Our room was fabulous but annoyingly this category of room does not have double beds and the singles cant be comfortably converted - odd! Service was good and the building was nice.
Negatives: you must be down by 8.30am to get a sunbed on the beach. They dont have enough for even half of the guests, and this is something they must address because it causes such disappointment and even anger. The government restricts the numbers on the beach, but why cant they utilise the sea-edge of the garden? A major rethink is necessary. The golfers cant have all the garden!
Food and drink is excellent but absurdly expensive compared to the shacks, where we had delicious meals.
The provision of tables for breakfast is woefully inadequate. The hotel wasnt anywhere near full but there were always people waiting for shady outdoor tables. The tables were far too close and the whole place crazily busy with waiters and guests. The food itself was superb.
At these prices wifi should be free.
Beach and sea wonderful.

The most amazing thing about Taj Exotica Goa to me is how sprawling it is. Probably the best property in South Goa, it did live upto it's reputation to a large extent. The rooms are nice and big, ours had a nice sea view too. The ground floor ones have a private pool and the ones abovethat have the view, so it is a trade off depending on what is your priority. They had a nice magic show during the evenings which was good fun.

Our first visit to India and Goa and we were not disappointed. We can concur with all the other comments left. Bit of 'sunbed bagging' (needed to be down to reserve by 7.30am at least) which we did not join in on, but always managed to find a bed by the pool. Only ate in one of the hotel restaurants, Lobster Shack, on the first night. Lovely food and drink, but quite expensive compared to what is available at the shacks on the beach nearby. The staff were very helpful and courteous to any needs you may have. Beautiful grounds and well looked after. Would return.

Family revisited Exotica to escape from the chilly north winters..hung around the beautiful resort..all minor flaws addressed and taken care..had a gala time in the pools and on the sun lapped beach..indian food still should improve..went to Jamawar Leela for a hearty desi meal..only resort we know in India that takes care of a bubbly kid, a moody teen, chilledout parents with what it offers from golf to beach cycleing to pools to leisure activities

Just returned from our second two week holiday at the Taj and this was as outstanding as our first visit. The beautiful surroundings of the reception area, rooms and huge immaculately maintained grounds offer you a wonderful tranquil feel as soon as you arrive.
The staff are the most courteous and helpful of any hotel I have stayed at in particular the pool and beach staff. My wife and friend visited the Jiva Spa which they thoroughly enjoyed whilst my friend and I played golf with the hotel Pro called Johnson many times.
Breakfasts in the hotel were wonderful as were evening meals but as we were on a bed and breakfast basis evening meals work out to be very expensive but this is a five star hotel !
We eat most evenings in two of the beach shacks to the right of the Taj as you walk onto the beach. The second shack along is called SP shack and this as where we eat mostly during our first visit five yrs ago. The food is still very good, Joe is a great chef and his chicken xuacuti is the best. However, this year the owner has decided to cut back, there is no tandoor oven and choices of meals are very limited. Well worth a visit though.
This brings me to the first shack on the right which is called 'Joecons'.
The shack is fronted by a man called Kumar and assisted by Sunil and a young lad who has only recently started known as Radi. Kumar and the boys are the best hosts you could wish for and will assist in food choices throughout the menu.
However, when you eat in a restaurant you want good tasty food and 'Joecons' have a diamond in their chef called Harry. Harry came from Nepal 18 yrs ago and stayed and his cooking and use of ingredients is magnificent, consistently the best food I have eaten. If Harry had come to the UK 18 yrs ago he would have become a very wealthy man !
In our experience hotels advise you not to use the beach shacks. This was our third visit to South Goa and have eaten lunch and evening meals in them for 99% of the time and have not had a 'funny tummy' after any visit.
To sum up, The Taj is a wonderful and most relaxing hotel which I would love to visit every year, but for a fantastic meal at a tenth of the price go to 'Joecons' shack and experience Harry's cooking. Can't wait to return !

We have spent Xmas and New Year at this hotel regularly for the last 10 years. The location is superb - on a beautiful, clean, sandy stretch of peaceful South Goa. The staff were truely excellent, anticipating our every need, especially in the pool area. The rooms are solidly built and have all necessary amenities. The spa is very good and we had excellent private yoga classes (there are free public ones as well). There is also a popular Ayurvedic Centre which offers a range of treatments. The food had, in our opinion, improved this year but it remains very expensive when compared to what is available locally. We did feel that this hotel was over priced during the peak periods and we particularly resented having to pay a hefty price for the compulsory New Year's Eve Gala event, which we did not feel offered good value for money. We also felt that Internet access should be free in a hotel of this standard - as would be typical in America or Europe. Other than these small points, we had an excellent holiday and intend to return next year for more of the same.

We've been coming here fairly regularly for 10 years and love it but this year the hotel is full (first time in our experience apart from Xmas & New Year) and there are no where near enough sunbeds. This is causing a lot of tension between guests and staff. The hotelline is that the Goan Govt limits the number of beds they can put on the beach but the reality is there are acres of lawns that could accommodate enough beds for everyone. The staff at the coal face are brilliant but the management are clearly sitting on their hands and doing nothing to alleviate the problem. Pity to write a bad report for such a (normally) great hotel.
