“Great Place for the Kids!”
Reviewed November 1, 2009

We stayed at the Taj Exotica for three nights in October - the resort was practically empty at the time - only a dozen or so other guests. The hotel property was very well kept and clean - we never had any problems whatsoever with the staff - everyone we came across was very friendly and hospitable. We stayed in the basic "two double bed" rooms facing the sea on the ground floor. The room itself was clean - the air conditioning always worked for us and the room had a DVD player that played DVD's from all regions - so the kids got to watch the movies we brought. We were happy with everything in the room - the bathroom was clean and large - and the cleaning staff did a thorough job every day.
The pool was good for the kids - the pictures on the hotel website made the pools look a little bigger and nicer than they actually are - but the kids enjoyed them and they were clean. The kiddie pool is only 2 feet deep all around - so our 2 year old loved walking all around the pool on his own. The beach was also very nice and clean. We had a few people each day trying to sell us things along the beach - but once we said "no" they didn't bother us again. The Taj kept their portion of the beach very clean and there was a little recreation shack close by that offered jetskis and parasailing. The propery itself had four restaurants and the "Lobster Shack" along the beach. The Lobster Shack was the kids favorite - the food was very good there and I would recommend it. I don't really have any complaints about the Taj Exotica - everyone we came across was nice and everything - the beach, pool, and restaurants were all clean and well maintained.

This is a terrific place for honeymoon or romantic getaway. There is huge land with lots of things to do throughout the day. If you get the sea view room you can see the beach which is just 20 metres away. THe hotel has 5 restuarants and the food is just great in all of them.
This is luxury at its best and since we travelled Aussie dollars, it was well within the budget.
We went during the rainy season and all of the water sports acivities were shut - I would recommend between Oct to May although in the off season the place is desserted leaving the whole hotel for us to explore.
One drawback is the location - South Goa does not offer anything in terms of nightlife or anything else for that matter. So 4 days felt just about right.
I intend to go back here as often as possible - you forget about the rest of the world here in your little paradise

Great property much quite run down. Surely pending some rennovation. The staff is good but unable to handle crowds. We went at a time when the hotel was full and it was total chois at the coffee shops especially during dinner. The food is quite average could do with some improvement. Overall it was a very pleasent holiday. We had a luxury room which was the second best thing (the first being the property itself). The room was spacious with a jacuzzi and faces the sea. Nice room but needs rennovated.

The only people who will not be impressed with this resort are billionaire playboys with Mediterranean yachts or royalty with summer homes in Monaco.

For the rest of the 99.999% of the planet, this resort is absolutely gorgeous. The lobby is this amazing semi-open air complex reminiscent of the effortless cool of the Delano in Miami. The grounds are manicured to the last square inch - every little bloody nook and cranny has been cleaned, primped, preened, and planted with something small. The level of attention to detail is astounding.

There is a golf course on the resort in front of the beach, and the pool is very big, clean, and arranged with a great relaxing layout. The restaurants are really really good. I mean, EXCELLENT. I've eaten at some very swank restaurants in my life and their restaurants give them a good run for the money.

They have a yoga pavillion, and it's breathtaking. IT's all marble, open on all sides with a low-slung roof and a small marble pond full of live fish. They light candles all around and fill these flat ceramic bowls with lotus leaves - just amazing.

The rooms are arranged in small maisonettes, scattered throughout the resort. They are VERY big, spacious, and spotless. The ambience is very tropical cool - rattan furniture with beige pastels and lots of nice rich wood. All the usual amenities are there - marble bathrooms with bidet, bathtub, and glass showers, minibar, dedicated desk for work (if you have business to take care of).

We came here for our honeymoon, and the bed was littered with rose petals and hearts, the bathtub was prefilled with a HOT bubblebath with rose petals in the bubbles, and there was a delicious chocolate cake waiting for us there. Small details like this are constantly happening here, reminding you that this staff is always attentive and hustling to make this place amazing.

Perhaps most impressively, the Wifi signal is 100% at the remote edges of the property, which is quite massive. Also only 600 rupees for 24 hours instead of the standard 800 rupees in most city hotels.

In summary, this place is just plain excellent. Don't bother with any other resorts (I've stayed at others in Goa and they don't come close). Book this one - there's a reason it's nearly always sold out, even during monsoon season!!!!

Bathrooms had a stench - the garden villas had a sewage smell and we changed rooms 2 times but it still remained - staff was polite and apologetic but could not meet the service needs during off peak season - overall an ok stay - an overrated hotel I would say and certainly a place for families not for couples - also don't stay in the Garden Villas they are very old fashioned rooms - they don't have a flat screen tv also and the shower areas are too small - overall nice property but the entire experience was stictly ok - stay at Park Hyatt they treat you like royalty and provide exceptional service
