“Got milk?”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

Top notch service, storybook setting, very comfortable accomodations, good food - what more can you want from a B & B? This was a 5 star weekend - almost. One in our party asked for milk at breakfast and was told they had none. We found this very odd for an establishment that serves a delicious 3 course morning meal. There were 6 or 7 juice choices in the guest fridge along with bottled water and soft drinks and the obvious coffee and tea but no milk! We encourage anyone to try the boat ride as a side trip that they advertise on their website - well worth the money! I actually rate this a 4.9 out of 5 ( the circles on this website would not let me do that). But not having milk as a breakfast beverage for either of the two mornings we were there was just too obviously a misstep. Any of the 3 in my party said we would gladly return for a repeat visit!

Room Tip: If there are 3 or more in your party - get the Harding Room!

Our extended family of 7 stays here every Independence Day week to celebrate the birthday of the mom/grandmom and the country. It's really become home for us, with David and Eric like younger brothers who just happen to wait on us hand and foot. The other guests who arrive must think we're completely dotty, but we let them have their privacy and quiet. There's another wonderful thing about MSB&B: it's quiet. There are no screaming babies or teens or undergraduates roaming the halls. Not that I haven't enjoyed my time with each of those, mind you. But a vacation for me is a time for NO HASSLES. If you look in the dictionary for the antonym of the word "hassle," you will find David and Eric's picture. The gourmet breakfast each morning kept us going until well into the afternoon, when chocolate chip cookies would magically appear under glass in the foyer. The inn is over 100 years old, but all the latest amenities are seamlessly integrated into the comfort and historical architecture and design of the house. There are plenty of comfy chairs and sofas for indoor lolling about, plus rocking chairs and a swing on the expansive wrap-around porch. Thanks to the tunnel of glorious 200-year-old live oaks, Magnolia Springs is always 5 to 10 degrees cooler than either West Alabama (where we live) and the beach. And if you want a day trip to the beach, it's only 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Then you can come home after spending a day in the ant bed with all those people and pop the chocolate coin into your mouth, lay your head on a cloud of a pillow, and take a nap in your cushy bed.

There is never a bad day at Magnolia Springs B&B.

My wife and I spent four days in the Mobile Bay area just because we'd never been to Alabama and wanted to see some wildlife (I mean birds and stuff, not those wild Auburn fans!). We spent most of that based at the Magnolia Springs B&B and were very glad we did. David and Eric were consummate hosts, taking care of all the details but never being fussy--indeed, quite the opposite, they were funny and made us feel totally at home, and the breakfast was fantastic and held us til dinner. The house itself is spectacular, and the location was close to everything, including the cute town of Fair Hope and the beaches and nature reserves around Ocean Shores (and yes, Jessie's restaurant, just a few blocks' walk away, is the only place you need to go for food if you want to just stay at the B&B and hang out on the porch all day). We recommend taking them up on the offer of arranging for a boat ride with Tommy, who showed us osprey, herons, eagle nests (the eagle was out getting groceries) and the local alligator's favorite spot (he was out too). We did a 3-hr sunset ride, which was great. Early morning could be beautiful too. Definitely a winning spot.

Magnolia Springs is a beautiful little town and the B&B is a perfect location for a restful vacation. The location is close to everything but secluded enough to offer peace and quiet. David and Eric were great hosts! We didn't come down with any special plans but David sent us out each day with something fun or educational to do...bird sanctuaries, beaches, quaint shopping areas, the outlet mall, historical places of interest and the most fun...a great boat ride with Tom and Chris! We spent over two hours on the Magnolia River and the Fish River and the Bay. Even had lunch at Big Daddy's on the river. It was so much fun! Got up close looks of eagles, osprey, brown pelicans, crab traps........
The breakfasts were amazing! Fresh fruit everyday and a delicious entree, followed by a pear or apple dumpling! And all of it cooked with low fat recipes!
When we were tired of running around, we relaxed on the beautiful porch or in the den. We spent 5 days and could have stayed longer! The house is beautiful and extremely well maintained and immaculate!!!
The best B& B and hosts we have ever had the pleasure of visiting!

Room Tip: All the rooms were lovely but the Harding Suite offered a lot of space! All rooms have steps except...

David and Eric have provided a perfect setting to encourage their guests to share experiences and mingle, one of the things that we most value about staying at B & Bs. Our other personal wishes/needs were met beyond our expectations.
Our room was spotlessly clean upon arrival, and, unlike some other inns, was beautifully maintained throughout our five day visit. Each morning, we were served a fresh and healthy breakfast which kept us fortified throughout much of the day.
Our hosts' knowledge of the area was invaluable; their suggestions met all of our varied interests. During our visit, we hiked in nature areas along the shore, enjoyed the pristine beaches, visited a reserve for pitcher plants, meandered through formal gardens, explored a historical fort, and dined on some of the best local seafood we ever had.
We look forward to returning one day soon.

From the moment of our arrival to the time of our departure, we experienced the wonderful southern hospitality provided by David and Eric. Breakfast each morning was a culinary delight
The establishment is in a peaceful location, and is immaculately maintained. The hosts were a source of detailed knowledge of the house and the surrounding area, and nothing was too much bother for them. We did not want to leave.
