We selected King Buffet for lunch yesterday because it was the closest to the Madison Street Festival according to my GPS. We enjoy a good Chinese Buffet at least every other month and this was my first since we moved to Alabama. The exterior is unassuming, set in a strip mall there is plenty of parking but not much eye appeal. The host greets you timidly before he escorts your party to a table. Nothing really stands out in my minds eye of the interior, it was clean but I was still put off by being in what felt like a cheap establishment. The waitress was attentive and quickly took our drink orders. After she delivered our drinks and brought us chop sticks she sat two tables down from us and had her lunch. The buffet selection was large and included enough American fare that the children were happy. While the staff refilled several trays as I was watching, the Saturday restaurant crowd was not great enough to clean them out and the food quickly became luke warm. Some of the food was excellent, some was average, and some was not so good. I advise against all of their seafood. None of the food made us sick but some just wasn't palatable. I didn't try any of their desserts but they had all of the usual stuff and it looked good. The strip mall affords access to a Baskin Robbins Ice Cream shop next door if the buffet doesn't do it for you. Also, the book store and pet store made the trip more enjoyable too. This is not a bad restaurant but it could be better. We will try a different restaurant next time.
