“The most beautiful lake in Alabama (or southeast)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2013

If you like clear, unpolluted water, this is the place for you! Most of the water comes from the Bankhead National Forest so there is no manufacturing to pollute. It was dammed by Alabama Power and fluctuates some in the summer but most of the lots have water year round. The lake is very deep and stays cool most of the summer.

“Small public beach, great lake if you own property or know someone who does.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

Smith Lake Public park has a small beach, grassy areas, restrooms, a campground, playgrounds, and a huge pool with lifeguards you can swim in for a fee. The lake itself is enormous with steep, rocky sides and is surrounded by hundreds of acres of forest. You would have to own property on the lake or know someone or rent a cabin to gain access. Or, if you own a boat, you can go out on the lake using one of the public boat ramps. But research locations thoroughly ---it takes hours to drive around the lake because of the countless inlets, peninsulas, curves and hills. Because of this, it's easy to get lost driving around the lake if you are unfamiliar with the area. It is extremely rural and several miles away from main roads and the expressway, Interstate 65.

Smith Lake is always a fun place to visit. The Dam area is very family friendly and lots of room to have a good time on the water.

“Gorgeous!”

This area is our favorite Alabama camping location. We love the campground at Corinth Recreation Area. The campground is very well maintained and the bathrooms are very clean. The camper-pads are level.

“Best lake in the State of Alabama!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012

Been going to Smith Lake since I was young. Most areas are deep and very clear. Some of the shallow, sandy shorelines get dingy on weekends when boat traffic is heavy. The dam is very awesome when approaching by boat. Water there is around 300 feet deep. Supposedly there are catfish in excess of 200 lbs there. Near our place there is a covered bridge underwater. Lots of beautiful rock clift and overhangs. Much of the shoreline is protected by the Bankhead National Forrest. LOVE IT!
