“Worth the drive!”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

This was our third dinner and we've had several lunches at Alana Shay over the past several months. Every time the food is superb: generous portions of carefully seasoned ingredients and just right combinations. Just had the fresh Georgia trout with apples and sweet potatoes: piping hot trout and the apples sliced thin with a delicate pecan sauce. Also loved the flounder--superb. Salads are subtle and generous-- my favorite is the beets salad. Cheesecake light, not too sweet, fresh and generous. Service (tonight Scott) is attentive yet unpretentious--friendly. Food is consistently delicious and we love the open space, easy parking, and cheery Doubletree entrance. A treat!

“Easter Brunch”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We had eaten dinner at Alana Shay and elected to go there for Easter Brunch. BIG MISTAKE!!! The buffet had limited choices and all the food was COLD. The only meat was roast beef. What happened to bacon and/or sausage. No pastries except croissants or biscuits. And then we had to ask for butter because there was none in the buffet line. The skimpy salad consisted only of spring mix lettuce with a few Bermuda onions sliced on top and only one choice of dressing. We were there with our [adult] son and his comment as we exited said it all: "Well, the water was good." We'll NEVER return.

“Easter Buffett 2013 $57 w/tax for 2”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

What a disgusting and humiliating experience. Two egg choices..egg frittata and omelets. No bacon, sausage, ham, chicken..only cold, over cooked and flavorless "prime" rib. No pastries, toast, biscuits or jam or jelly. No shrimp. "Dessicated" oysters with no cocktail sauce or crackers. No cereals. No fruit of any kind..not even canned fruit cocktail. Orange, apple and tomato juice...server never offered coffee tea or water, much less Bloody Mary's or Mimosa's (which we discovered "could have been" available when leaving). NO milk. Bland and under cooked "Stuffed" French Toast that was cold with no syrup. Horseradish sauce (for the "prime" rib) was bland with no flavor..if you could scrape some out with a spoon. "Maple" syrup for the French Toast was non-existent..none in the carafe for over an hour. No spoons included with service. NO SERVICE. Server (that eventually came to our table) never poured juice or offered any drinks or refreshments; did not inform us as to the location of the "buffet" and never presented the bill. I has to ask for it. This was the poorest and most insulting dining experience I have ever had anywhere in the world. Based on this observation (IHOP and Craker Barrell would have been far better choices) I will NEVER. stop there again. I would advise anyone in the Huntsville area..especially if you are traveling to not stop OR stay at this location for a meal.

“The best James Boyce mealI have had!”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Living closer to his other restaurants, i have eaten numerous times at his other venues. Rarely does he disappoint. My real surprise was the quality and excellence of his restaurant at the Double Tree Hotel.. The duck confit with cassoulet was as good as I have ever had. A special for the night, I had to share with everyone. The trout was cooked perfectly and as always , the short ribs were superb. I will go back soon even though I live three blocks from his other restaurants, Cotton Row and The Commerce Kitchen.

“Great option if you want a Chef Boyce meal, but didn't make reservations.”
Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

Huntsville locals know, Chef Boyce is probably the best chef in Huntsville. But, chances of getting a table at Cotton Row or Commerce Kitchen, without reservations, is slim to none. Alana Shay works out perfect for the nights when you didn't make reservations or you don't want the hassle of going downtown. Plenty of parking, plenty of tables, DoubleTree did a nice job with renovations and its an easy location. Our food was very good. The Short Rib with parsnips had great flavor, but in typical short rib fashion, it's a fatty piece of meat, and you have to work it. The Tempura Shrimp starter with Chili sauce was very good, and the Belle Chèvre Goat Cheese Salad was delicious. The Strawberry Shortcake was good, but not memorable. The only area we agreed needing attention was the service. It was good, and our server was friendly, but not at the Cotton Row or Commerce Kitchen level. A little too silly and familiar.
