“Great beds but privacy in bath/shower questionable”
Reviewed August 7, 2011

My 2 kids and I enjoyed our stay. The beds were great, hotel clean and staff pleasant. The only issue comes with the doors to shower and toilet area. If the room in dark and someone is using the facilities, you are to see into what should be a private area. The closet has a regular door. I don't think the designers fully checked out their design.

Elaina was wonderful. We called from the road and she was courteous, friendly and professional.

We were so excited to stay in a brand new hotel, and within walking distance of our convention at the newly renovated Von Braun/Propst Arena. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and the lobby was brightly decorated and smelled of fresh paint and new carpet.

The front desk is round and allows for lots of room for several people to check in at once. There are comfy chairs and tables with a soft, sheer curtain draped around them. You could almost take a nap there! We noticed a large snack bar area with candy, chips, drinks and ice cream. However, one candy bar was $2 and the pint of Ben&Jerry's was $7, so we skipped the snacks while we were there.

There are only two luggage carts so we had to wait for another guest to finish with theirs. The elevator is centrally located and very quick and smooth. Hotel was full during our stay and we never had to wait more than a minute for it to arrive.

We entered the room and found it perfectly clean (as expected since the hotel is new). We had a king suite, so when you enter there is a sofa bed, desk and kitchenette with microwave, mini coffee pot and dorm fridge. The furnishings are modern and made to withstand the test of time. The desk separates the bed area with a sliding frosted glass door, which was heavy and almost felt like it would break if you weren't careful. The flat screen tv was just across from the desk, and it swiveled so you could see it from the bed or the sofa, although it was a bit uncomfortable to watch from the bed.

The bed is firm yet comfy, plus it didn't bounce us all around when we turned over. Lots of fluffy pillows and nice soft linens. There is a closet with a full-length mirror and plenty of space to hang clothes. There are shelves and a safe also.

The bathroom is separated into two parts, one for the toilet with a small sink and mirror, and the other for the shower and vanity. Both are well lit and provide enough space to move around in comfortably. HOWEVER--this was the most disappointing part of the whole room--the bathroom doors are sliding pocket style doors with frosted glass insets and you can see through them fairly easily. Although the person inside is blurred, you can pretty much make out everything. We were not comfortable with that at all. We ended up hanging a sheet over the door to the shower area.

Another problem in the bathroom--the shower door is all glass, and the part where the hinges are is wide enough for water to pour out of the shower and soak the floor. We had to keep several towels on the floor and hang on for dear life when exiting the shower. I can imagine over time this will create mold and caulking issues, and most likely a lawsuit or two if people slip and fall.

Overall, the room is quite stylish. Wood, nice upgraded wallpaper and decor, frosted glass and modern furniture make for a nice looking room. The downsides were the previously mentioned problems, the very small pool with NO jacuzzi, the lack of parking close to the building and the breakfast (eggs, sausage, waffles, muffins, bagels, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt). It was adequate, but still left a lot to be desired.

The staff are really nice and stayed on top of the breakfast buffet and cleaning. We were not able to walk to the convention arena unless we wanted to arrive sweaty and wore out) as there is no path. The area is being renovated and I understand there is another hotel planned for right next door soon, so I am sure it will be better next year. We would definitely stay here again due to the convenient location and the newness of the hotel.
