I've grown up in Huntsville and as a child have taken many trips to the Space & Rocket Center. Recently I visited as an adult and brought along my 11 year old daughter. The rocket inside the main area is just amazing to see. There are lots of space items to view up close and there are descriptions of each item explaining what it is and where it's been. Outdoors there are actual rides you can get on. I don't think you could spend an entire day viewing the center, though.
You can tour the area where Space Camp takes place. It's just unfortunate that with a paid entry ticket you don't get to experience the full areas the space campers get to see and do.

We went to see the traveling exhibit, "100 Years of Von Braun, His American Journey." It is here in Huntsville only until 15 May 2012! Much of this is material that has not been displayed before, even to Huntsvillians. We had not seen his family life, his hobbies, etc. Dr. von Braun is of course the "father" of the American rocket program, including the huge Saturn V rocket that took the astronauts to the moon. This is a very inspirational exhibit. The entrance fee is $20 for adults.

We enjoyed an afternoon at the the Space Center to see the von Braun exhibit which was quite informative. The displays were terrific. We also went over to the Saturn V building and thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits there. The Space Center is a must, if you are in the Huntsville area. We saw many families enjoy there time there.

We drove up from GA for the day. It was a 3 1/2 hour trip but we loved the Space and Rocket Center. It was very interesting. There was one virtual ride and two rides outside. If you like astronauts and space stuff, you will like this. There is also a rock climbing wall. Our kids really liked it and want to go back for a week of camp.
