My wife and I spent 4 days at the Beachside Resort Hotel, in Gulf Shores, Alabama
beginning December 26th, 2012. Since we were staying "off-season" I guess, the rate was a very reasonable $59.00. Other condos in the area were priced around $159.
When we checked in we were greated by a very friendly Brad Jones, who was helpful in getting us checked in. Since so many people are concerned about the presence of bed bugs, I asked Brad if he would allow us to see the room first. He most graciously allowed and took us up to see the room. I pulled back the covers all the way, and found absolutely no trace of bedbugs.
I had requested a view of the beach, and though a small view, we did have one. The state of Alabama, I guess, was dredging sand from the Hurricane Katrina debackle. But all I had asked for was to be able to see the beach, and I could!
As soon as we checked in Brad informed us of a small problem witht the hot water in the rooms, but come to find that all you had to do was run the water for a couple of minutes and the water was as hot as you would ever want it.
A coffee pot in the room would have been a nice touch. We brought our own but could have saved the trouble and space in the car if one was provided.
The bed was a king size and so very comfortable.
We awoke to get our "FREE BREAKFAST" at the Tequila Bar & Grill, which was right below our room. We were served very good pancakes and biscuits/gravy. (wonderful for Tennessee folks).
The pancakes were so good, according to my wife, that I had them for the next three days. My compliments to Lee, the chef, as they were so very light, fluffy and delicious. If we could suggest the free breakfast to include more than coffee and water. Some juice and milk would be nice. Children and/or older folks may need another choice as caffeine is not good for them. We did like the cooperation between the restaurant and the resort. All in all, the Mexican food was delicious. It was nice to have a restaurant so close to the resort, as the weather was cold and breezy!
We spent 4 nights there. By the time we left, both Brad and Lee were begging us to stay, and we were tempted. The friendly atmosphere they presented was worth more than money can buy.
Brad suggested several activities and entertainment spots. His judgement was good as to what we would enjoy, including riding the ferry, driving to Mobile and visiting the local forts. He knew about several antique shops over in Pensacola, FL. We fell in love with them and found a couple of good purchases.
In summary we would visit again to see the beautiful white sand beaches and enjoy the resort hospitality. We were told of many renovations, including new windows. Our room, 411, had moisture inside the double panes so this really does need attention.
