Martinique on the Gulf
Reviewed December 4, 2011

We've been coming to the Martinique for years as a family and have always had the perfect vacation. After 10 years the houses are showing quite a bit of wear. Ciel Sur Terre's kitchen is no longer functional, with the stove having 2 burners at best and no pots & pans or serving dishes to speak of. Lots of plastic cups though. The sheets are old and worn and the blue bedroom mattress is sagging in the middle, my sister moved to the couch to sleep. I'm guessing it had not been rented in awhile because the floors were dirty and little critters had taken up residence in the corners.

My other sister had My Michelle and that is still in very nice shape. My brother was in Hemingway and it too was in perfect shape.

Thank goodness we had the other homes to rely upon to cook meals but it caused the burden to be on those families to entertain every evening.

If we come back we sill send my brother over to inspect all the homes reserved first because the quality and cleanliness seems to be hit or miss.

Room Tip: Insist on inspecting the house first when you arrive. If it is not up your standards ask for another...

This was our first trip to this property and we were very pleased with the home we stayed in. I was initially concerned that we would have a trek to the beach, but the walk to the beach was pleasant and the golf cart was available for use when we were tired of walking. The house was well decorated and the atmosphere was peaceful and pleasant. We will definitely return! One suggestion for anyone preparing for the trip is to be sure to bring paper products. We had been warned about this beforehand by the people in the management office and they were not kidding! Televisions were a little out of date and not what we were accustomed to, but I guess this would not be an issue at all during the summer; however, we were visiting during football season. I can't wait to return and explore the area more! We would love to stay an entire week.

We've been renting houses here for the last 8 years, usually in the fall when the rates are lower and there are less tourists and the weather is PERFECT. The homes are very well maintained and well appointed. You are provided with golf carts to make navigating the small gated community lots of fun! Tennis courts and pools are very well maintained. The landscaping is lovely. It's a great way for large families or groups to travel together as they can rent homes throughout the neighborhood and spend time together at the pool, beach or entertaining in their rental homes. The neighborhood is about 9 miles from the grocery... but for us, that is part of the appeal. Quiet white sandy beach, adjacent to over 2,000 acres of nature reserve. Paradise.

Room Tip: Check VRBO... some homes are listed there and you might be able to negotiate price. We love the loca...

My entire family has been going to Martinique for over 6 years for a week together each summer. We stay in a different house each year and have loved them all. Great furnishings, comfortable, home but beachy atmosphere, lots of things for all ages to do. My very favorite vacation place. It is more expensive than some places but well worth it. Safe enough to allow kids to walk to pools, ride bicycles, play tennis, etc. It has great landscaping, well kept grounds. Maintenance crew is very prompt with any issues and everyone is very friendly. We will keep coming every summer.

Room Tip: We always stay in a house and the choice depends on the number in our group. Every house is very ni...

Our vacation at Martinique on the Gulf was one we will remember forever. It was perfection in every aspect. Our condo was on the beautiful beach and close to the pool. It was beautifully decorated and well furnished with everything we needed for a wonderful stay. It was quiet and serene. There were several restaurants within a short drive. The only negative for us was the presence of small fish in the water....even the shallow areas...harmless but always there. On one of our days (after a storm at night) there was a multitude of jellyfish which made swimming impossible. We would most definitely return....but bring a floating device to avoid the fish around your ankles.

This was not our first visit to Gulf Shores, but it was our first time staying in Martinique. We were a little hesitant as it is further from stores and restaurants; however, we found this to be something of a plus. We became adept at consolidating trips which in turn gave us more relaxation time and forced us to plan our trips into town better. We found the property to be well maintained, not over crowded (June), and the staff was quite accommodating. We checked in after 5:00; our preliminary packet was ready, and we were in our house in about 10 minutes.

We stayed in Afternoon Delight. It is a beautiful house, and the setup was perfect for our three-generation family. We cooked almost every meal ourselves, and found the kitchen and grilling area to be quite satisfactory. The kitchen is well equipped, and everything was very clean.

Our house was about 1/2 mile from the beach, but our granddaughters enjoyed the golf cart immensely! There is not a lot of traffic on the complex roads, so it's a quick trip anywhere. We also rented 2 adult bikes which we enjoyed riding to the pools and beach and for additional exercise.

The beach is very clean, and the sand is so soft! The pools are nice also--we used both--and not overly crowded. The main pool has a kiddy pool which we found perfect for our youngest grandaughter and steps at the shallow end for our granddaughter who is learning to swim. Both this pool and the in-door out-door pool (which never had many swimmers) have a spa pool for the adults. Our son-in-law was pleased with the equipment in the fitness center.

Several of us are joggers, and the area is very jogger-friendly. If you run down the boardwalk that leads to the beach and take every cul-de-sac and head back to the front entrance you've run about 2.5 miles.

Ft. Morgan is close for a quick 1/2 day trip.

We are looking forward to staying again next summer!

We stayed in a condo in June--the beach was great. Lots of jellyfish the first two days but then great the rest of the week. The property is very pretty. Condo was a little dated but clean and spacious. It's kind of a long walk to the beach on the boardwalk but very pretty. We had trouble with our air conditioning but maintenance handled it quickly. It's about a 20 minute drive to bigger grocery stores/restaurants but it's nice to not have big crowds. Overall--a great trip!!
