This facility has a wonderful location...right on West Beach Boulevard - beach access being just a short walk across the street. Most units do not have a water view...but since we were on the end on the east side, if we leaned out on our deck we could see the gulf to the south and the lagoon to the north. There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby and within a short drive. Super Walmart with a gas station is about three miles away. Gulf State Park is only a few miles down the road to the east. (No fee to get into the park. There is a fee to get into the campground (this is where their pool is located too). Some beach areas have fees for parking and some do not (affiliated with the park). There is a fee to go onto the pier.)
These condos can be rented by the general public, and they are also in RCI exchange program for timeshares. They give no sales pitch.
There are three buildings...all on stilts, typical for the area. Parking is under the buildings for most units. Our under-building parking spot was double deep (two vehicles). Nice for have shade in the summer (however note some units do not have covered parking). Two of the buildings have two stories and the third building has three stories. There are stairs for everyone...no elevators. They have a nice pool (unheated in winter), a putting green, basketball court and a nice looking play ground. Restrooms provided near pool, with a covered deck with seating, ceiling fans and bbq grills. The exterior maintenance and grounds upkeep was pretty good. We did find multiple outdoor lights burned out in grill area. No lights working/turned on in outdoor rec area. (After dark no staff available-only an emergency #) BBQ grills-poor condition (they are charcoal grills, not gas).
The password protected WiFi worked flawlessly with a good signal.
They offer both three bedroom and two bedroom units. The master bedroom had a king bed and tv, walk-in closet with four hangers (no other hangers in other closets) and its own full bath. The second bedroom had twin beds, two closets and a tv. The third (small) bedroom had a twin bed and a trundle bed, no tv and a closet. A full bathroom is off the main hallway. The condo was a good size. All units have full kitchens with dishwasher. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, pot/pans, etc. However, occupancy for this three bedroom unit was for six - frustrating that they only provided six pieces of each type of silverware, and six plates, etc...expect guests to wash dishes after each meal?
The interior maintenance and housekeeping lacked. Our unit carpeting had a stain right when one walked in the door. The vinyl flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms made 'sticky' noises when I walked on them so I washed them with a damp paper towel and was shocked when the paper towel turned dark! (I saved the paper towels and showed them to the office person who was very distraught about it.) Kitchen had been updated, however one stove burner was missing a part. The ice maker in the refrigerator freezer worked well. Water from unit above dripped thru wall and out ceiling of parking area (building on stilts) onto our car parked under the building - there was a patch on the ceiling so apparently had been an issue before. The vinyl flooring in kitchen and baths were yellowed. Flooring in both baths was peeling up around the tub and toilets. Caulking in baths were yellowed/unsightly. Tubs (old) were discolored/unattractive. Bath exhaust fan sounded like jet engine. The bars of soap provided were extremely thin and cheap quality (China on pkg) and felt abrasive. They were very conservative with supplies (i.e., we had to ask for extra kitchen trash bags two times). Hallway and hall bath floor very uneven - a very large hump from end to end. On a lighter note we did have a brand new couch and love seat in the living area and we were the first to use them. The material on the dining chairs matched the living room set.
We understand that this area was hit two years in a row with hurricanes (Ivan and Katrina), but since several years have passed it was our hope that things would have been up to snuff in all areas of the facility by now (meaning that took a financial tole but the items on the deferred list would have been tended to by now)..
There was only one person on staff that we ever saw and she did comply with whatever we asked. She was also friendly and polite. The office is not staffed on the weekends or in the evenings.
Would we stay here again...maybe. If you are looking for luxury, then this is not the place for you. It met our needs, not our wants...we didn't go to Gulf Shores for the facility, but for the beach and other activities that Gulf Shores has to offer.
