This year we rented the Beach Club condo thru VRBO (previously we rented through the beach club itself). The Condo was very nice and the rental process was easy.... for the Beach club itself....
We like to stay at BC because it is easy access to pool and beach and if you do not want to leave the property for dinner and activities you do not have to.. there is plenty to do.

Activities fee:
Each condo tower has a pool for itself which any renter may use for no additional fee. We discovered though that the pool chairs filled up quickly and there were no umbrellas out.
We chose to purchase the Activities Card (because we did not rent through Spectrum/ Beach Club the activities were an additional fee... for 6 days is was $144). The activities fee gave us access to the fitness center (we used it several times), the arcade (the kids used that a lot- the arcade in the club house is free after the fee, but the arcade games at the village hideaway are not), the club house pool (which includes the lunch cafe and poolside tiki bar). We participated in the scavenger hunt which was fun.. but missed Amazing Race, survivor, and the dive in movie. The kids participated in Pool games on one day.. but decided it was for younger kids (they are 9 and 11).
There are volleyball nets.. renting a ball is $5.
There are also grills available and we used them to cook out one night- you provide your own charcoal and lighter.
We did not use the basketball court or tennis courts.
There is plenty of grassy areas if you bring horse shoes or balls to throw, etc.
We were able to sit on our balcony and enjoy watching the fireworks for the fourth. That was very nice.

Pools:
Each condo tower has a pool and then there is one at the club house. You did have to pay the activities fee or rent through spectrum to use the club house pool. We had paid the fee, so each day we had to decide if we wanted to go to clubhouse pool - where there were umbrellas, music and lunch available for purchase.... but we had to buy drinks (no cooler), or stay at the avalon pool where there was no umbrellas, but we could have our own drinks in a cooler.......
many people we talked to agreed the no coolers at the clubhouse was a new rule this year and was most guests were not happy about it.
We also talked to a condo owner who said the Board had approved funds for umbrellas at all pools, so they should have been out.. We felt like it was a tactic to pull people to the Clubhouse pool to spend money at the Tiki bar.
The club house pool was clean and enjoyable. The avalon pool needed to be cleaned better and the hot tub was green.

Beach:
The beach was crowded this year.... we were there for 4th of July...... so we expected the crowd.
The beach chair rentals are discounted for multiple days. We choose to go ahead and rent for the week since the pools were so crowded. We used the chairs almost daily. The positive is that we did not have to haul chairs and umbrellas or tents to the beach.... the downside is the workers start taking down chairs and umbrellas at 3:30 and by 5 are requesting people move so they can put away all the chairs. Many people had their own tent and chairs which were left at the beach every night and no one seemed to bother them. If you have space in your car, this seemed a good way to go.
The kids used buckets and shovels to build sand castles almost daily. They also talked us into buying boogie boards while we were there. I do wish we had thought to bring some of these items with us...
people seemed to really enjoy floating on inter tubes and rafts and inflatable small boats.

Restaurants:
The poolside place was fine for sandwiches and burgers for lunch.
The first night we got take out pizza from Village Hideway- pizza tasted fine, but we did have to go back and have them correct our order because we did not receive the correct order.

Beach Club restaurant was fair, not great. Gumbo was very good. fried oysters were not good. Salmon was very good. We felt it was over priced for the quality.

Village Hideway- we went back here our last night.... mostly empty tables, but they told us it would be a 20 minute wait. Once we did get a table (which had been open the whole time we waited) it was another 10 minutes before a waitress came to the table. We ordered wings... they were out.... changed to pizza... they were out.... also out of fries. We left.

For dinner we grilled out some and went off property several times.... I was not impressed with the property restaurants this year. They have been better in previous summer trips.

DVDs- we did not rent through Spectrum, so to use the DVD machine it would be an additional $22 for the week (it is not included in the activities fee). We decided we did not need to rent movies.

All in all we had a really nice vacation and the Beach Club is a nice place to stay. The renter will have to decide whether to rent through VRBO or the Beach Club. The benefits to renting directly from Beach Club is no additional activities fee, but we found it still to be less expensive to rent through VRBO and pay the separate activity fee.
I would recommend either cooking in the condo or dining off property. The restaurants are the weakness to this vacation site.
If you want to enjoy the pools, beach, and ocean with easy access to the condo...this is a great place.

Room Tip: Rooms on 1st floor open directly to outside from back porch.. may be nice for small kids. Low level rooms can still hear pool/ outside noise in evenings. Higher floors are more quiet... but waiting for an elevator takes a long time and then you stop often on way up and down. Our traveling friends stayed one floor above us, which worked well. If you are traveling with friends, at least stay in same building ... even the same floor would be good.

My wife and I try to make it at least once a year to the Beach Club. It is always a wonderfully relaxing vacation. The condo we stay at is nice. The unit is clean and well maintained. It has balcony overlooking the beach and Gulf of Mexico.

Room Tip: I believe all rooms face the Gulf.

Just returned from our annual trip to The Beach Club. Beautiful resort with all of the amenities you would ever need right on property. We rented through VRBO our first year but have rented from Spectrum Resorts every year since. They are on site and require their owners to keep their condos updated. Plus Spectrum provides free access to Clubhouse amenities, resort charging privileges and unlimited DVD rentals. Ultimate convenience. Beach Club is the only place on the Gulf where you can rent a condo that offers all of the amenities of a luxury hotel. Highly recommend it!

My husband and I planned a last minute trip to Gulf Shores with our two boys and rented a condo a the Beach club from Meyer Realty. A few things to know in advance. After we booked the trip we read a review on Trip advisor about renting the condo that does not have Club House privileges. I called Meyer to find that we did not have those privileges. What you miss is the heated pool, fitness room and a larger outdoor pool. Also if you want to rent a DVD fm the movie box in the club house you have to have a DVD now card. Meyer does not include this in you package and you can not get one from the Beach Club or Spectum which is the realty company that manages most of the condos in this complex. We have rented fm Spectum, who includes the card, many times and I did not know how important that little piece of paper for the DVD was until we tried to get a movie and ended up going 12 miles to Gulf Shores for a rental at a red box at Winn Dixie.
When renting, if the above are important to you, ask if the club house fees come with the rental. We had a 2 bedroom and the fee was $34 for the first day and $32 for the second and I believe they continued to discount it $2 for addition days. The cost depended on how many bedrooms were in your condo.
Each Condo has a pool that is free which is actually less crowed then the bigger pool at the club house and of course the beach is free. There are chairs at the beach for $5/hour or $20/day.
All in all it was a good visit. The condo was nice, clean and quite. There are a lot of families but the area is so large I never felt like there was a lot of people around in the afternoon.
Just a note, Spectum Realty does manage a lot of the condos and has an office on site. Renting fm Meyer you have to go by Meyer main office in Gulf Shores to check in before going to the Condo. Meyer is nice but that just makes it a little inconvenient and then you have no support at the resort.

It's been 6 years since we've been here but other than prices going up, everything has remained the same. This trip we stayed in Bristol tower on the 18th floor. We had storms the first couple of days but we made the best of it. Then the sun came out to play and the rest of the week was great. As you will find when staying by Fort Morgan that you are a 20 minute drive from civilization but if you like seclusion it's where you want to be. Our family loves it here and whether you rent from The Beach Club or VRBO your experience is about the same. We have done both and have not been disapointed in either case. You can save a few bucks though if you don't plan on using the club house by renting from private owners. We'll be back for sure.
