“Rude Owner”
Reviewed March 10, 2009

I recently had the opportunity to play Kiva Dunes. Let me first say, "I cannot believe this course is so highly rated". The course was adequate, the greens were slick and the fairways were manicured fairly well, but it does not deserve the accolades it seems to garner. We did however have the opportunity to meet the owner, "Scrappy something or other" who was golfing behind us with 2 other good golfers. On the 15th hole, he has the nerve to drive up to us and suggest that we let him pass on through, not ask, suggest. Rather then suggesting that his guests were in a hurry and they really wanted to finish their round quickly and would we be so kind to let him pass through, he rudely suggested that they had to wait for us on several holes. This was unequivacally false. It was a long par 5 and we had lost a few balls on that hole, but they rarely had to wait for us, and if they did, it wasn't for long. Needless to say, I would not recommend this highly overrated, over priced golf course.

“Bring the Deep Woods Off !!”
Reviewed October 2, 2008

Pricey golf with the worst mosquito problem I've ever experienced. The course is fun to play, but not worth the $100 green fees. I was rewarded with at least 25 bites even with repellant. The staff admitted a problem does exist with the insect population. Best advice--find another venue. We did visit several other courses while vacationing here and enjoyed them much more for half the price and no insect issues.

“Rude Staff, Overpriced”
Reviewed July 27, 2007

I have vacationed in the Gulf Shores/Perdido Key area for about 25 years and have played many courses. Kiva Dunes is pricey, which is OK ( I played the Peninsula the day before). The problem is a rude staff both in the pro shop and at the bar. Very snobby with the exception of the starter. I will never play Kiva Dunes again, as there are many golf courses in the area that are equal to or better than Kiva Dunes with prices equal to or less than the price we paid. Perhaps a course in southern hospitality is in order for the staff of Kiva Dunes.

“A Great Relaxing Vacation!”
Reviewed June 4, 2006

Kiva Dunes is a beautiful place to spend a relaxing vacation. We rented a home in the community (versus a condo which are also available) and absolutely loved it. It was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. Although not directly on the beach, the ocean was only a short walk down the street. The Kiva private beach is incredible. The water is not as blue as Florida, but beautiful nonetheless. The sand is clean and almost white. Kiva does not have a "touristy" feel at all - it really felt like home. It was worth every penny.

The only downsides (if there are any) is that Kiva does not supply the beach area with any chairs, umbrellas or tents. You can rent these through a service or you need to supply your own. Also, Kiva is about 15 minutes from Gulf Shores so you are in for a drive if you plan to shop or eat out. There is a restaurant at the clubhouse, but we did not eat there. Teenagers might find the Kiva pace of life a little too slow, but for a young family like mine, it was pefect.

“Kiva Dunes is outstanding”
Reviewed December 23, 2004

I went there with the golf course in mind and loved it, but my wife is not a golfer and she was thrilled with our vacation too. If you like comfortable elegance, shimmering beaches and golf courses, Southern hospitality and casual culture, great food and fun, then Kiva Dunes is your place as a home base to the area. Golf resort is rated in the top 75 in the country by Golf Digest magazine. The Kiva Lodge has luxury condos for rent with spectacular views and exquisite accommodations. Stay-and-play golf packages are available, and there are about a dozen other very good public golf courses near to Kiva Dunes through the Gulf Shores Golf Association (--------------------).
