“Decent condo but the elevator issue should be resolved pronto”
Reviewed July 23, 2011

We (two couples and a teen) rented this 10th floor condo for a recent getaway to Gulf Shores.

PROS:

Beautiful balcony views from the living room and the master bedroom, where we enjoyed a comfortable bed. The furniture was decent, the kitchen had all the amenities and overall, the condo was clean and pleasant.

The beach was not crowded during our stay in mid-July, but that could have been because it was cloudy and the next day it rained on and off. The sight of a beautiful rainbow off the coast was greatly appreciated. The beach is clean and well-maintained. If you've never been to the Gulf Coast, the sand is as sugar-white and soft as they say.

An umbrella and two-beach chair unit can be rented for $25 a day.

One of us rented the condo sort of at the last minute and the reservation agent was helpful and accommodating. The YouTube video we were directed to was accurate and helpful.

CONS: as other reviewers have stated, the elevators are overcrowded and the waits are ridiculous. We actually had our elevator get stuck for a few moments, causing some of us to quietly panic. The elevator just bobbed up and down a little and would not open; a voice did respond when the alarm button was pressed, but still...unnerving for sure.

The blender in the kitchen? Pretty low-quality for a high-usage place like a vacation condo.

Although bed was comfortable, the sheets were the cheap, scratchy kind that I try to avoid. The pillows were more an idea of a pillow. I didn't expect a plush hotel experience, because it's all about the beach, but some things could be upgraded here.

As for the beach itself, a couple of us have physical limitations and the weird shelf of sand made entry into the surf hard for one and impossible for the other. I noticed one father just took time to scoop out a ramp for his young son to make it easy for him to actually get to the water. There were no steps or easy access.

There were no flags regarding surf conditions, an issue since a storm was off the coast and I wanted to know ever since I had family members struggling and terrified with a rip current in Florida a few years back. I always like to check the swimming conditions and they were not available, nothing broadcast on the television; the guard in the parking lot of the condominiums said a flag was put up everyday but none could be found. That's just irresponsible. A staff member on the beach told us he was not really a swimmer and didn't have that information.

As for Gulf Shores in general, the traffic and lines/waits make Gulf Shores like one big theme park. We waited about two hours to get into Lulu's (excellent burgers), about an hour and half to get into Doc's seafood (good food and really helpful waitress), hour and a half for Lambert's in nearby Foley (great food, fun place). We beat the crowds at Scoops and enjoyed the ice cream. Tanger Outlet Mall provided some rainy day activity, although it closes at 6 p.m. on Sundays. Surf and Suds, the restaurant right next to the condos, had a two-hour wait, so we gave up on it rather early on.

I got tired of all the crowds, traffic, and people everywhere and really enjoyed the time at the condo. I lean more toward a more natural beach vacation and probably won't be back to Gulf Shores anytime soon although I can see why it is popular with some. Our group still had fun being together but we will probably choose a Florida location next time.

Condo itself was very nice and clean. Elevators were a huge issue. There are only 2 elevators for 20 floors. When we arrived, there was only 1 elevator working (of the 2). Took 1.5 hours just to get on elevator to get our stuff to condo. We would've used the stairs but we were on the 17th floor. We did walk down stairs. 2nd elevator was working for the next day or so but back down to 1 elevator before we left.
Beach was VERY crowded. Apparently, you just leave your umbrella and chairs on the beach 24 hours a day to save your spot.
Condo was pricey. If the elevators had not been such an issue, might consider another stay, but not willing to pay that price to stand in line for elevators.

While we apologize for the inconveinance of waiting on the elevators, Seawind Condominium has since enclosed the elevator landings and they are climate controlled to help ease the wait if one applies. We understand that during peak season the wait time could be better, however there are some things beyond our control that can contribute to an elevator not working properly.

Located right on public beach and was so crowded you could not enjoy the water. My husbands flip flops got stollen off the board walk to beach. We had to wait an hour to check in while they cleaned our room then when we got in it there was hair on both toilet seats, crumbs all in kitchen sink, coffee in coffee maker, hand prints all over the glass doors and sand all in the chairs outside! Only two elevators for the whole 19 floors so it took forever to get anywhere. definitely will not stay here again!

The above reviews are false. I did not see the hot tub, so I cannot say that was wrong. But, there was a pool for the children, and an indoor outdoor pool. That one was rather small, but they did not see the other pool that was maybe 50 yards away that was 3 or 4 times it's size. It does need more than 2 elevators though. This place is in a great location and not too crowded. I would definitely recommend.

Great location and nice condo. Not enough elevators for the number of condos. Always a wait during our stay. Surprised at the lack of basic supplies provided in our condo but maybe my expectations were to high. 2 rolls of toilet paper for the entire week and 1 roll of paper towels and no dish soap. I know this isn't a hotel but for the price I would think these items would be supplied. This is a condo for 8. I know to bring the house with me next time. Great workout facility. If pool is important to you then this is not the place for you. Location is walking distance to Hang out and other restaurants. Our tubs were dirty and greasy on arrival. Ask for card keys if many in your party. I will probably look for alternative unit if I were to stay here again just because it was high and there were no considerate extras. We rented 1406. I didn't like the cancellation policy either.

We were scheduled to stay here for Spring Break. When booking the room, I stated my concern over the lack of a picture of the pool. The real estate company said that the pool was good with an extra area for the kids. We got to the condo and were very disappointed with the pool. It has an indoor/outdoor pool, just like the ad says, but the outdoor pool was very, very, very small. Almost useless unless there was only one person in it. It was like they built the condo and said "Oh yeah, we forgot to add the pool!" And they added it in the only space they had left.

We did not even go into the room, we cancelled our reservation and went somewhere else. If you don't care about the pool, maybe stay here, but if any pool is important, I would go somewhere else.

Please accept our apology for the inconveiance of the size of the indoor/outdoor pool. Upon completion of the building and the realization that the complex may need to add an additonal feature to offset the size of the indoor/outdoor pool, the zero entrance kiddie pool with water features was added to help accomodate the various clientel that Seawind may have. We also offer 300 ft of beachfront for all of our guests to enjoy.

These condos are in a nice location a few blocks east of the main drag leaving Gulf Shores, and front a wide enough section of their own beach that it was never too crowded. We stayed in one of the corner units with oversized balcony, and it was enormous and offered views in both directions of the gulf, it was literally probably 40 feet in length. The view from the sixth floor is great, but certainly now what you'd get from one of the higher floors. The units are very new and upscale, easily worth $300 nigth for multi-bedroom units.

The fitness center is very nice. The pool is too small though, and there is only one hot tub which was at times filled to capacity. The parking is covered and convenient, no issues there. It's condos so no restaurant on-site, although many places walking distance or a short drive (the better restaurants we found were in Orange Beach or in Perdido, FL). The little seafood shack right next door gets rave reviews, but we found it to be mediocre.

Within 45 minutes, you can be in Pensacola, we took our son to watch the Blue Angels practice at the navy base, and he loved it more than words can describe. We took the Dauphin Island ferry, which we'd recommend too.

Primary reason we wouldn't say five stars is the way too small pool and small (and lone) hot tub for such a giant condo development.
