I would not recommend staying at this house to anyone who is planning a vacation in Gulf Shores. Myself and 15 others booked this home for 5 nights in June of 2017. After arriving and unpacking we went to the beach so of course we left a lot of luggage in the rooms and living areas because we were ready to be on the beach. Later that night when we returned, we were hanging out at the house and cooking. About 5 or 6 of us thought it would be fun to get on the roof and in hindsight I will admit that this was an irresponsible decision. The owner of the home had to come out to the property and give us a warning to get off the roof or we would be evicted. We weren't distecpful or rude. We apologized and we complied with his request and did not get back on the roof again that entire week. He then "inspected" both parts of the home. To his "disbelief" there was stuff everywhere and the place was in such a "disarray" that he threatened to evict us if we did not pick it up by the next day. Mind you, all that was in the house was our luggage and groceries. I don't think he realizes that when 16 people stay in such a small house that there isn't anywhere to put everything away. So of course we had stuff everywhere but it was not "trash" like he claimed in his review of our stay. Over the course of the week we accidentally broke two chairs downstairs. Contrary to his belief, we did not "destroy" the chairs. The chairs were cheap and dry rotted and broke just from us sitting down on them. Two of our guys fell right through the chairs when they sat in them. If anything this put us in some danger. What if we were cut by the plastic after falling through the chairs. He charged us $40 for the chairs. I found the chairs on Walmart's website for $5.65 a piece. We also broke a picnic table. One of the nights we grilled, one of our guys placed their ice chest on the table and it completely fell over. The table was old and the legs were all rotted out but we still got charged $50 for breaking the piece of crap. We messaged the owner as soon as we broke it but still got 1 star on our review for "communication". When we notified the owner about the table we apologized and we were told that it was fine.
When we arrived we noticed one of the bed frames was broken. Unfortunately, we did not take any pictures. They charged us $200 for breaking it even though we were not responsible for that damage.
The last day we were there all 16 of our guests walked around the inside and outside and made sure every piece of trash was picked up and thrown away. My girlfriend swept the entire house and apartment that was in the back. We wiped down the counters, microwave, and stove tops. We removed all of the leftover food and groceries from the fridge and cabinets. We also placed the dirty towels in the washer and dishes in the dishwasher. We payed a $200 cleaning fee just to stay at the house for the week so we found it unnecessary to clean it much more than just a light surface clean and to pick up everything. The owner claimed we left the place trashed and charged us an extra $100 for "extra" cleaning inside and outside.
All in all they felt it necessary to keep $390 of our $500 deposit, left my girlfriend a terrible review on VRBO, and truly offended us by calling us disrespectful and irresponsible. They told us we were "lucky" to get any of the deposit back. They claimed they are "not in the habit of keeping people's deposits" although I beg to differ. I believe that when he was called out to tell us to get of the roof he noticed how young we were and decided we would be an easy group to push over and take advantage of. He did just that by not cutting us any slack and claiming we "destroyed" his property. We did no such thing. Again, I would not recommend this home to anyone.
