“The Only Wright House Open in the South East”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

An astonishing house, set amongst classical southern upper middle class homes, this house has been painstakingly restored by the city of Florence. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, and we shared him with only one other couple. in this house you get to be very up close and personal with the quirks and brilliance of Frank Lloyd Wright.

“A hidden gem in the Shoals”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

Take the tour of the house, don't just drive by. The outside is great, but the inside is fabulous. The tour guide has a passion for the property and the house and is very knowledgeable. You shouldn't visit the Shoals without seeing this home.

“A Small Echo of Fallingwater in Alabama”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

On a small residential street near downtown Florence one can find a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright is arguably America's greatest architect, and he is certainly America's greatest residential architect.

The Rosenbaum house was built in 1940 and is an example of Wright's 'Usonian' period. Usonian homes were conceived by Wright as affordable semi-manufactured alternatives to the status quo, incorporating many ideas from the magnificent 'Fallingwater' showplace. An addition in the late '40's updated the kitchen and added a guest wing, also designed by Wright. Like many Wright homes, much of the furniture is either built in or designed by Wright and is original to the home. The Rosenbaum house was purchased and restored by the city of Florence.and is one of the few Wright homes that was continuously occupied by the original owners before being opened to the public.

We toured with a small group on a Saturday afternoon. Although a tour had already started, we were invited to join by the knowledgeable host. The often small rooms were viewed a few persons at a time while the host offered a narrative mostly geared towards the property and owners rather than general info about Wright. He was able to answer detailed questions about Wright and the property's history.

Credit cards are not accepted, it would be wise to bring cash, but my personal check was accepted. A unique, informal and informational home tour and highly recommended. Photographs are permitted after the tour is completed, but not during the tour.

One of the few Wright designed homes lived in only by a single family and a magnificent restoration of it by the city of Florence. If you like modern architecture or are a fan of house museums this one is a must~!
