Well, we girded our loins for battle and tried again on a quiet midweek late afternoon.

The hostess tried to put us in the bar with the living statues propped at the counter but she graciously agreed to our request for something in a dining area after asking why.

It was Shift Change Meeting since we could see five or seven employees ranged around tables in an area closer to the kitchen. Only four of them stared at us as we walked to our table.
Stage whispered conversation between the hostess and our server, possibly a warning that we had actually voiced An Opinion.

Our server, Annie, was the best part of the experience. Quick, competent and cheerful.
Other than that, it was still not worth the price.

Boiled shrimp appetizer: some room temperature, one chilled, several experiencing severe carapace slippage. Just didn't taste as fresh as they should
Fried catfish: two of the smallest fillets I've ever seen, coating good but not cooked enough. Fish mush.
Broiled fresh catch of the day (speckled trout $29): delivered painted/wallowing in clarified butter.
Luckily I knew that spaghetti worms are white so the stringy black things in the lone fillet were probably not parasites, just broken veins or muscle tissue. A vast improvement.
Today's Special: Varicose Fish Veins in Grease.

Tables still not properly cleaned (paper napkins stuck to the surface) and the musical selections of the day were the sporadic yells of several employees hanging out on the ramp into the restaurant. Directly outside our grimy window.

Sigh.
And the search for consistently decent seafood restaurants continues.

Wintzell's was recommended to us by our niece. Hands down, this was among the best seafood meals we've ever eaten at a very reasonable price. We both ordered the J.O. Platter. I'm not a fan of broiled seafood but absolutely did not want fried. I decided to see if they would grill the platter and sure enough they did. I was told me they'd cook it anyway I wanted it! The food was fabulous! Everything had great flavor, to include the gumbo.
Also seems like a great place to bring the entire family! We will definitely return to Wintzell's the next time we're here.

First time hear. I had a fried platter for lunch. It was exactly what I expected, no frills, solid food. Inside is entertaining with all of the "wisdom" written on the walls. Our waitstaff was average. we had to go and find our waitress to get refills.

Great family value lot of food on the kiddie basket. Waitress even offered the tip that you could get the market fish as a basket at half the cost. Inspirational quotes on all walls. Loved the one advising the wife that a husband was on,y right when he admitted when he was wrong.
