“Anniversary Trip on a Race Weekend.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

Went there for our anniversary. This was extra special since we had spent our Honeymoon there at the hotel. The only room left to book online was a double bedroom (2 full sized beds). It was fine, but did not have a microwave, nor a refrigerator or any kind (we brought cheese, etc.).
The room was clean and beds comfy, but the hair dryer and clock/radio didn't work. Thank goodness for bringing my own hair dryer and smart phone. We were able to get things on the Television that we wanted - SEC football.
The atmosphere is awesome! The hotel amenities are lacking. The restaurant still has a beautiful view, but unlike before the food is not so good. :-( They tend to overcook now. :-(
Heads Up....as of 10-21-13 Lake Chinnabee is CLOSED due to flooding - BIG disappointment or us. We love Lake Chinnabee!

Room Tip: If you want a cabin or Chalet..call at least 6 months to a year in advance. Hotel fills up on holida...

Stayed two nights in a rustic cabin for two. Pet friendly cabin was very quaint. This cabin is in a State park if you are expecting all the comforts of a 5 start you should look elsewhere. The cabin is just what it says rustic but very functional and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Bathroom is small but has everything necessary, shower, lavatory and toilet nothing else needed. Bedroom was very nice, queen size bed which slept very well. Small semi kitchen, sink, microwave and two mini refrigerators and a coffee maker. Living room had two nice rocking chairs a small breakfast table for two and a nice fireplace. Stayed in cabin 16, close to trail with beautiful sunset views. We hiked to bluffs both evening to view the beautiful sunsets! This park is well worth a return visit, very affordable priced. Our cabin was in excellent condition and clean!

My wife and I stayed here one night in July. It is a very pretty state park and the area reminded us of the Blue ridge mountains. We rented a cabin (#2) and it was a very cute efficient rock cabin with fireplace built in the 40's. It was remodeled in recent years in Adirondack style and very well done. Jennair stove new re fridge central heat and air ( we turned off the air and just opened the windows) high-end windows queen bed nice small bathroom. Outside you had your own private rock jutting out from the mountain with a great view. The only downside to the location was it was near a trail head so it was a little noisy. We would normally have done some hiking but I had a foot injury so we did not take any of the hikes but they sounded interesting.
The other thing plan ahead as Anniston Alabama is the only town in the area that has alcohol sales on Sunday and then I think after 2:30?

Room Tip: Cabins near ours 1,2,4, and I think 16 all have great views. The other cabins have wooded views and...

If you are looking for somewhere to just relax and enjoy the beauty of Alabama -- this is it. We enjoyed the hike to the "waterfalls", which I must admit weren't much but the hike was nice and trail was well maintained. The hotel pool is a no frills pool but the view is spectacular. The restaurant has a wonderful deck with rocking chairs that you can sit out on and enjoy sunrises or sunsets. I would definitely suggest eating breakfast at the restaurant not really for the food but for the clouds. As the clouds rise out of the valley, they surrround the restaurant's windows. So pretty!

As for the hotel, its a simple hotel -- nothing really new. In fact, they probably haven't changed anything since the 80s but its clean and well cared for.

Time to go is in the spring so that you get all the water features while hiking. The waterfalls are plentiful along with the babbling brooks. Hiking trail were plentiful with many different ability levels. I read a lot of complaints on the restaurant and service but we had no complaints. Food was good, not 5 star, but still good. My husband was crazy about the blackberry sundae. The views are incredible! Anybody looking for a destination wedding should check this place out. It is beautiful with most everything you would need. Pool even has handicap assistance. There is a boarded walkway that is gorgeous and perfect for everybody. Everybody should visit here a least once!

Room Tip: I preferred the cottages but there are beautiful chalets, a hotel, and group lodging available, plus...

the room, average, bathroom areas were somewhat newly renovated but it was the first hotel room that came with a dehumidifier...... large room. good wifi. didn't use the tv so i can't say. clean but the maintenance: AC loud. Sink faucet very leaking. funky toilets, no lid.... just industrial type. bed, very comfy. location excellent. right across from large pool and restaurant (restaurant, ok for basics but nothing fancy for sure). you stay here for the location, not the room. people very nice. but maid service, a little forgetful on items..... and they start in earlier than most motels.....

Room Tip: rooms 119, 118, 117. good views out the window. just about across from the pool which overlooks t...

We rode the Harleys up to this place b/c it was the highest point in Alabama & when we saw the view we had to stay the night!! Peaceful...........so peaceful!! Plus the staff was great...from the country store employees to the restaurant staff. The guy that checked us in (sry I don't know his name) was as friendly as can be. So impressed to see someone who truly enjoys their job. Thank you!! The rooms were good-comfy beds-had dehumidifiers which was great ( I don't like that damp feeling you get so many times in hotel rooms). The rates were great! The food was average/good. You can enjoy beer or wine as you enjoy the fantabulous view!! The pool 'overhangs' the mtn. We had covered motorcycle parking. We toured the park the next morning and there were cabins, chalets, a small lake for swimming and paddleboating. A great get-away!!! Check it out!!

Room Tip: Room 123 is a good choice if you like to see the sunrise.
