I love Dauphin Island. This is the best motel because it is the ONLY motel on the island. So if you want a motel room this IS where you will stay. And it is not bad. Plenty of parking, lots of sunshine and you can walk to the beach in a few minutes. At the other end of the island is the Audubon bird sanctuary, historic Fort Gaines, plus an estuarium, whatever that is.

The Gulf Breeze charges just a little more than they could get away with if there was some competition. The next closest motel is 15-20 miles away, but if you stay there you won't wake up on this gorgeous island. There are 30-35 rooms here. Ours was large, freshly painted, had a fridge. The microwave is conveniently located in the guest laundry room. Pets are OK for an extra fee and you can launch a boat at the ramp out back.

We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Call ahead to get the best rates.

after reading reviews, decided to stay with my husband, afetr on the phone got told they had plenty of rooms, we got shoved to a different building because we had a dog? and is a service dog, so we paid $143, very overpriced for what it was, old, some spots not cleaned, the shower leaked, ants in the kitchen floor. my true advise, look somewhere else to vacation with doggies, possible fort morgan, destin, or pensacola...

My wife and I are "locals" from nearby Mobile. We have stayed at the Gulf Breeze many times on weekend getaways. We always reserve a suite and although it is nothing fancy it is comfortable. 2 bedrooms, equipped kitchen with full size fridge, stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, table for 4 and furnished with plates, bowls, glasses and silverware. Very small pots & pans so you will need to bring those. It has a decent size "living room" although the day bed and chairs do need to be replaced. The double beds are o.k. (this is not the ritz-carlton) but with only 1 room air conditioner it can be a little uncomfortable on a hot summer day or night in alabama. Sleep with the windows open and the a.c. on. There always seems to be a good breeze blowing off the gulf and the smell of salt water makes it all the better. The rooms are always clean and the other guest have always been well behaved and friendly. The rates are fair especially during the off season. A beautiful view of Mobile Bay can be seen from every room. There is a boat launch on the grounds with access to the bay and the gulf. The staff is known to show that good ol southern hospitality and treat you like family. There is no pool but the addition of one would be nice. It is a long walk to actually reach the gulf, probably a 1/2 mile or so. But just drive a little further down the road to the west and you will find a nice public beach with a lifeguard and small fee to enter. It has much easier access to the water. If you want something fancy go to Gulf Shores but if you want a simple slow relaxing getaway the Gulf Breeze is the place to be. Although there are few stores and only one restaraunt on the island you can still get pretty much everything you will need while there. The fish are always biting at cedar point pier at the north end of the bridge. There is a charge for admission but no fishing license is needed, the pier takes care of that. The only complaint I have is when we have to leave and head back to reality.

We stayed here on Dec. 30th, came to Mobile for the Moon Pie drop, but came a day early so we could venture around and see some sights so we decided to try Dauphin Island. Got on the island after dark and were a little concerned - not much there or open - but we knew it was off-season and we thought it would be neat to wake up the next morning and be close to the water. So, we saw the sign for this motel and the front desk clerk was so friendly and welcoming - he let us look at the room first and wow, what a pleasant surprise! Room rate was $59 and was that a bargain. The room, on the second floor on the building next to the office, was spotless, freshly painted, bright, clean (I mean CLEAN) and spacious. Double beds, small table with 2 chairs, large bath, luxurious towels, fridge and coffeemaker. Now, don't get me wrong, this is not a luxury motel. But for what we paid, this was a great value. No hair dryer, no iron or ironing board, but it has the basics at a great price and like I said, was super super clean. We have stayed at hotels that were higher priced and had bath towels that were thin, but this motel had luxurious towels and washcloths. You can walk to the water on the bay, but are a block over from the gulf. This is an older motel, but our room was well kept.

Went there during of seasons, so many businesses were closed. It's a nice quiet place. The motel is a bit old. It's clean and it's maintained well. Not the best place to stay, but I have no complaint. The only inconvenience is that they only have soap and towels in the bathroom. No shampoo or hair dryer, so prepare for that Staffs were helpful and friendly.
