We took to Ferry from Dauphin Island to Fort Morgan. My son is in a wheelchair and needs an eight foot clearance on the right side of the van to be able to exit and enter the van. We called ahead of time to let them know we would be coming and what we were driving. We could not have asked for better service. They worked it out so we were at the very front of the Ferry and he had plenty of room. They were all super nice!

If you are traveling west definitely try to get this side jaunt in. The price is reasonable and it is only a 35 minute ride that treats you to some nice views of Mobile Bay. The only complaint I have is that it is first come first serve.

This was my first ferry trip and it really wasn't my cup of tea, lol... The ferry itself was very easy. With my truck, 4 adults and 1 child it cost $43.50 for a round trip fare.

While visiting Dauphin Island recently we decided to try the Mobile Bay Ferry that travels between Dauphin Island in Mobile County and Fort Morgan in Baldwin County, Alabama. The traffic was fairly light on the day we rode which was a good thing since I estimate the ferry can carry about 25 automobiles per trip. The signs in the queue to board your vehicle tell you the approximate wait times. We noticed some being three hours or more if the line was long.

Fortunately we boarded about 15 minutes and enjoyed a pleasant and uneventful passage across Mobile Bay. You can leave your vehicle and climb atop the observation areas during transit. On the day we travelled, the weather was very good and we were able to observe many things along the way including natural gas production platforms, pleasure craft on the water, a lighthouse in the distance, a large ship coming in from the Gulf of Mexico and many pelicans and other sea birds. Our trip for one passenger and two people cost $20.50. We enjoyed it very much and believe it to be a good value as the 30 minute ride saves about 100 miles of driving.

The ferry was very efficient and reasonable; $16 for car and driver + $4.50 for each additional passenger. We left from the Ft. Morgan side and if we had gotten to the parking area earlier, we could have just left the car in line and walked over to visit the Fort, about a 5 minute walk. There was no narration on the 40 minute boat ride but the views were very nice. Once we arrived on the other side, it was a short 2 minute drive to Ft Gaines. There was a small snack shop at the Ft Morgan landing.
