“Quiet Island”
Reviewed November 18, 2008

We stayed in unit 311 and had a wonderful week relaxing. The Island is quiet with no commercialization. If you are looking for a wild night out, this is NOT the place, but if you want a very nice beach and a relaxing get away, this is for you. The only thing we did not care for is the sight of all the natural gas rigs visible in the gulf waters. They are not attractive, and seem to produce a low "humm" much of the time. We ate at the Common Loon which had excellent shrimp and a huge cheeseburger. Fort Gaines is nearby and is an interesting attraction. The location is also convienient for a day trip to New Orleans or around Mobile Bay. We found the condo via VRBO.com and the owners were very easy to work with and seem to keep their condo in excellent condition. The condo buildling also has two nice pools and lots of lounge chairs. The property appears to be well maintained.

This was a great place for us. We had 3 small children and they had a blast. Since the property has 2 pools, they were never crowded. The beach was very clean. The room was also clean and had a great view of the gulf. The front desk provided excellent support, whether it was providing help with directions, attractions or letting us check out a little late. Our security deposit was refunded exactly when they said it would be and arrived with no deductions (as it should have been).
We will vacation in this area again and stay at these condos-no doubt. Another great thing they offer is 3 or 4 night stays, you don't have to rent a full week at these condos.

My husband and I just returned from our 4th stay at the Inn and had a wonderful, relaxing time. Watching the dolphins from our balcony in the morning was awesome! The beaches are lovely and never crowded (except amybe in June-July). Which, by the way, is great fun on the 4th! Awesome fireworks over the ocean! The bird sanctuary meanders through beauiful settings and takes you out to the ocean! OK, no neon lights, no fast food places, all mom and Pop type places. Kick off your shoes and stay awhile!
Hints! Try Flamingo Fae's for breakfast (at the golf course) and The Bakery for fabulous coffee and pastries! Purchase great seafood at Skinner's for an eat-in condo meal. The Oar House has good hamburgers, but it's a bar and smokey unless you eat outside. Travel up to Moblie and go to Felix's Fish Camp for a special meal (by the battleship)
Don't forget the sea lab, and the gift shop there. But take in the Sand Dollar gift shop;many unusual things!
So, if you want a quiet beach experience that is both adult adn family friendly, I highly recommend the Inn at Dauphin Island! We can't wait to return!
