The Old Cookstove is indeed like a cookhouse out in the woods with an atmosphere of a family get-together (or, a church basement). Look at www.oldcookstove.com for pix, directions and menu.
Although many people think of this as Amish run, it is technically operated by Mennonite family and workers.
There are many items on the buffet so you should find many things you like. We enjoyed pot roast, chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, chicken fried steak, chicken gizzards, meatloaf and fresh sliced baked ham and left other items untried. The perhaps dozen vegetables were great. Biscuits, cornbread, fried corn nuggets, lettuce salad with a dozen add-ons, cakes, ice cream and toppings for dessert were all delicious. I cannot imagine that anyone has ever left hungry. Although open on Friday and Saturday only until 7 PM, they accommodated eaters coming later with plenty of food available and a friendly welcome. [But come early!]
Besides the cost is all inclusive and reasonable. The Old Cook Stove provides a unique and enjoyable experience.

This was our first visit to the restaurant........it will not be our last! We decided to make the 55 mile drive up for an early dinner on Saturday. The buffet was well stocked with a great variety of meats and vegies. The meat loaf and creamed corn were delicious!! Also very good was the country fried steak. C and I both enjoyed the salad bar with the pickled tomatoes,,,,,YUM,,,,,We could not dare fail to mention the wonderful deserts and homemade vanilla ice cream. Service was excellent.....the restaurant was nice and clean. The servers all got together and took a moment to sing us patrons a nice hymnal. The entire experience from start to finish was such a treat.......:-)

The Old Cook Stove Restaurant serves a large buffet of freshly prepared meats, vegetables, salads, and desserts. Everything was fresh and flavorful. There were so many choices that it was impossible to try a small taste of every dish. However, everything that I tried was delicious. The cost of the meal was very inexpensive. The total was $51.00 for four adults, including our drinks ( non-alcoholic). The restaurant is located in a rural setting and it is a pleasant drive through very pastoral scenery.
