Papaya Verde has been a staple for some 12 years in Recife's, a city where restaurants are known for having a very short life-span. It opens mostly for lunch, and it has only recently taken dinner nights.
Lunch time offers a variety of salads, main courses and desserts, but you can always find a couple vegetarian/vegan choices, and it's a pay by weight, as it is quite common in Brazil (we call pay by weight system a "self-service", in case you were wondering). Wednesdays and saturdays offer a good range of arab-palestinian dishes, and they are the very best in town.
Dinner is fixed price (around 15 reais) and full of tipical dishes from Pernambuco's countryside.
Many of the clients have been regulars since forever, which speaks volumes.
If you are in for a tasty and aromatic but quick meal in the neighbourhood, give it a try. And try their desserts.
