Olinda is a beautiful quaint town to pass an afternoon walking through. And then you come upon this interesting little puppet museum and you wonder, really>? Really!.. this is an interesting place to take in how communication has no barriers in the medium it employs.. the museum usually has a docent to accompany you and explains all the intricate details of puppetry... don't miss it if u r in Olinda

What a perfectly enjoyable way to learn the culture and past of this unique UNESCO preserved corner of Brazil! Olinda is full of cultural insights as well as scenic views, so at first I was loath to go indoors on the brilliantly sunny and gorgeous one day I had to explore the city. But after an hour exploring the attraction, I had no regrets about dipping into this small, but well interpreted showcase of a unique aspect of Brazilian culture. The stories represented by the puppets and the artistry exhibited in the display were all worth exploring and gave a humorous twist to some of the less attractive aspects of the development of society and industry in Brazil. It is a colorful and practical avenue into understanding the multicultural aspects of present day Brazil.

Must say I wasn't that keen to see puppets, and only went in beacuse of my husaband's curiosity. And what a lovely surprise! The museum is small and quaint, packed with historical puppets telling stories about life in Northeast Brazil. We had a very helpful guide, with enough english and a lot of passion to give us a glimpse into the puppetry art.

The lady let us in even though it was not supposed to be open that day. They have a great range of puppets which are interesting.

The entrance fee was R$2 (about US$1) so can't possibly let money be an excuse to miss this super quaint museum that combines culture and history. Mamulengo is a type of puppet/doll that was used to pass along church teachings and capture small town gossip and folklore. I speak português but even if you don't I think this museum is worth it, just look at the dolls like artwork and appreciate the colorful museum.
