We stayed at the Pousada Baoba for Carnival in 2013 and had a great time. It is located only a few hundred metres from the historic centre which is where all the action was. It’s also very close to the beach but it’s not a very nice one with signs warning about sharks. There are maybe 10 rooms in total and an outdoor area with a patch of grass, plants and a small pool. The dining area is small but very well equipped and you can sit inside or out. The breakfasts were great although after several days of the same thing it got a bit tiresome. The food is also left out for a while (although it is covered) so get in early if you want fresh. The staff will top it up if anything runs out and will cook tapioca to order. Our room was at the back of the property and was small but very clean with a large bed, TV, A/C, and shelves. The bathroom is also small but the shower is a good size with great water pressure. The staff are very friendly and help as much as they can but they don’t speak a lot of English.

A very nice place in Olinda. Nice rooms and a cool swimming pool. Most of the staff doesn't speak english but they give all their energy to give you information and to make you comfortable.
They direted our first cab driver to the hotel and called us a cab for the airport the day after.

For that price we've stayed at better places in Brazil. The picture made the place look really rustic and cosy but in fact the pousada is located in front of a very busy street. The location is good, short walking distance to the old historic town. Breakfast was nice and the staff are nice and friendly but pretty much monolingual. The room was a little small, smelt very strongly of moth balls the whole time we were there so not impressed.

Friendly/helpful staff that only seemed to speak Portuguese and some basic Spanish. I had a single room with a shared bathroom/shower down the hallway by the outdoor pool. The pousada is in a very good location--easy to get up to where you climb the streets to Olinda’s lookout area. The breakfast was good and had a nice variety. My one complaint would be the use of the magnetic card to get electricity in your room. No other card can work and you have to remove it each time you leave your room. The room would feel very humid/stuffy and take 10+ minutes with the a/c on to become comfortable. I’m glad I stayed here in Olinda and not in Recife. If I return, I’ll consider staying here again.

Room Tip: If you're going to visit Recife, ask for a map at the airport. Visit the restaurant on the corner near the traffic light for good music & food.

I loved this place. The staff was wonderful -- very helpful. The room was very nice. And I loved the location, walking distance from great restaurants and other sites. Given the rate, worth the 5 stars.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 3, a bit far back from the street, It was quiet and nice.
