Some elements of this place are lovely: the sheer size of the rooms, the mirrors, chandeliers - one can only imagine what it looked like in its heyday. But that time is long gone, even though the family still lives on the property. One expects to see Miss Haversham lurking in a corner. Like so much of Kolkata, it's deteriorating rapidly. The builder had a fetish for 19Century European furnishings, and I must say, it's the ugliest collection of Victorian sculpture, furniture and painting that I've seen in quite a while.idnt help that we saw a rat scampering around the bird cages on the second floor gallery.
