A great place to be with family & friends. Relax, stroll, enjoy the street food, take a horse cart ride, watch the beautiful Sound & light show in the evening. In one word a place for passing wonderful time.

A place to enjoy early in the morning right at the heart of the city. Excellent & lovely place to spend time with family. SOmetimes it is crowded for sports or other activities but nevertless enjoyable.

Different cities have distinct places to offer to its morning walkers. Unfortunately in growing urbanisation we tend to forget what fresh air and open space can do to lift your spirits. Maidan in the heart of Kolkata is one such place. Its huge, has 2-4 official parks, Victoria memorial and huge open space. People come for morning walk, to chit chat and to catch up with friends at different points in time throughout the day. The place has a metro station and connectivity is anyways great. Whenever you go to Kolkata, visit Maidan in morning and explore it at your own pace. That's what i love about Kolkata. It runs at its own pace, doesn't care how world is moving.

A nice break from the cluttered streets of Kolkata. Not a beautiful green space - but a brown, dusty, trash strewn park. Fun to watch the cricket and people lounging about. Watch for horse poo!

The people of Kolkata / Calcutta always prefer to identify themselves as emotional, as cultural, as intellectual, as cordial. During the 34 years long democratically elected communist party rule in Calcutta, red had become synonymous with the city, yet it's heart, the Maidan, always remained green - close to nature, nurtured by nature. Maidan is a vast green field at the very heart of Kolkata - spanning from west of Chowringhee to South of Victoria Memorial - a couple of Kms long and about half wide.

It's a pleasure to lie down under the trees at the sides of Maidan and enjoy the Sun in a winter afternoon. During the early evening there are some shows of the fountain of joy. Some locals also gather on Sunday to show some street tricks. There are some food vendors on the outskirts too. It's a place to just spent some leisurely time with near & dear ones - close to heart at the heart of Kolkata.
