I'm not sure which one is a good location in Kolkata, but this hotel is a clean place, like an oasis in Kolkata, close to Victoria Memorial. The building is nice and well designed, most of the details are a good match, it has a good reception area and swimming pool is good, also the social area above the restaurant with the billiards table is good. The staff is polite and friendly, although some of the waiters in the pool area are distracted/slow with the service. The rooms are big and comfortable, mostly clean (the carpet looks a bit dirty, but the rest is ok). The bed is wide and soft, perfect for a good sleep. Tv channels selection is mostly indian, so not much to watch, and the tv is in a furniture lower than the bed so it's not easy to watch tv while you're laying. Internet service is ok (about 9 euro/day). Bathroom is big, comfortable and with good quality toiletries and towels, the tub looks a bit stained. Newspaper is complimentary every morning. Room service is fast and waiters are very polite. Menu from room service has many western and asian options and most of the food I tried was good (not exceptional), but breakfast wasn't really good (pancakes were dry and milk tasted weird). In general it's a good and peaceful place to stay in Kolkata after an stressful day outside.

Room Tip: It seems most of them are very good

Was there during a busy period, so may be that's why it was not at its best. Locetion is very good, in the heart of action. Experience is the usual Taj experience, with top service and very helpful and nice staff, though not everybody: junior concierge way outpasse the service and experince of the senir one.
Food was good at all restaurants. The property itself is not one of the best of Taj, even if all is comfortable and at hand, and even small quick business meetings are easy to arrange in the big hall.
Room was nice though not exciting and with a terrible smell upon arrival. Aircond not at its best.
Overall for sure it was a good experience, but surely not the best Taj so far.

I went with my parents and siblings to Kolkata and stayed at Taj for a couple of days. Even though the hotel is really expensive, it lives up to the Taj standards. THe best part of the hotel, no doubt was their service. I have stayed at the best of hotels world over, but have never seen such amazing service. For instance, I cut myself at the hotel, nothing major, so called the reception to send a Bandaid or first aid kit. The manager of the Hotel came up immediately to check if I were hurt badly and needed some emergency first-aid.

The breakfast buffet was very well laid out. I am a sucker for Eggs Benedict and they had one of the best Eggs Benedicts I have had in India. That itself would make me give them a-5-star review. Apart from that they served us everything on the table, even after the time had run up. The second day they even greeted us by our names.

Room Service, House Keeping were very good. Location is excelent, right in Alipore. Surprisingly quiet in the rooms, unlike the rest of Kolkata with the non-stop honking.

The only down side is the price. But then for a Taj, it can be expected. Must stay at Taj if you're in Kolkata and of course, if you have the budget.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the swimming pool are nice.

The Taj advertised worldwide as Indias finest hotel kept use away from booking it becaue of it not being affiliated to a foreign chain but finally on our 4rth India TRIP we did patronise the chain at various cities and found the experience to be extremely amazing .
FOOD is to die for and the service is way better than waht we experince back home in singapore.

The Taj Bengal has all the trappings of a business hotel, but you just don't feel it. Come back from a hard day's work and you feel like you have come home but the rest of your family is on vacation. Suddenly the food and comfort have improved, there is a gymnasium and pool, and they will do ANYTHING to make you want to come back

Room Tip: For smokers, the first floor balcony overlooking the pool are the best rooms, there is a balcony to...
