An amazing place to hide away for a few hours reading relaxing sitting up in the coffee shop in a peaceful environment. There is a good selection of books, the staff are very helpful. Apart from the Coffee Shop, where they like to add on their own extra little tax for serving you. They are nice guys but check your bill. Check out the wonderful Children’s Oxford Book Store just a few shops up.

Oxford books is good if you want to pop in for a browse,a coffee and cool down but its selection of books is very poor compared to that of Crosswords and Starmark.

Walking along Park Street in April with outside temperatures of 40C we stumbled across this Oasis of Calm and air conditioning. Having negotiated our way past the entrance security we suddenly found ourselves away from the hustle of Park Street and into a pretty good comparison to Charing Cross Road in London. The sheer range and scale of the book display is most impressive and whilst you may not find every book you are seeking, there is surely something to suit all tastes The books are spread over two floors in many nooks and crannies and they are supplemented by a wide selection of Music on Disc and DVD films some of which had only just been released on screen in the UK. To all this must be added an eclectic collections of gifts to provide you with several hours of browsing. So it is good to recommend the First floor Cha Bar for a break where the range of teas is immense in conjunction with coffees, cold drinks, cakes, savouries, salads etc. A good setting to examine possible purchases. The staff in both the bookshop and café could not be more helpful and added to an enjoyable experience. We visited twice during our stay in Kolkata.

Great for gifts and other things to take home. You have to leave your bag at the door with the Security guard
