“Excellent view of Old Calcutta Now Kolkata”
Reviewed December 11, 2013

Just from your room you can see vibrant Kolkata, busy Kolkata, Typical Old Kolkata with full crowd and you seeing is a great feeling and great view which you can not even get at a 58 hotel of Kolkata. Staff is not that great as they don't even come unless you calling them. Food is better to be eaten outside and other things are good. Excellent hotel location within new market and near by business market location makes this hotel my choice of fabulous location.

Room Tip: Chose a front city view room without meals

We have just spent 6 days at this hotel and it was a very special experience, where, by the end, we felt we had made many new friends.
The staff were so friendly, courteous, and helpful.
The rooms are elegant, well appointed and spotlessly clean.
The restaurant offers a good selection of Indian food.
And the location is excellent! One can walk to many interesting places: the market, College Street bookstalls, Park Street, the Indian Museum, the Maidan, the Victoria Memorial, St Pauls Cathedral, watch a game of polo or the horse races. Browse books in the College Street.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the market if you enjoy the atmosphere and colour of a market environment...

There was some renovation going on and the paint fumes in the hallway were the first thing I noticed on being shown to my room here, sadly it is quite common that hotels in India are oblivious to such health hazards to their guests, anyway I'm glad that at least it was when I was still traveling alone at this point and that I didn't choose this hotel for when my family also joined me in Kolkata a few days later. Other than that the room and everything were ok, and the location is excellent - right next to the always fascinating New Market.

It was indeed a wonderful expeirence to stay at the hotel. The ambience was nice, despite the rooms are small but very well maintained and clean. The restaurant was nice anc cosy and the service was indeed remarkable. The extra mile that the service staff went was without words.

Room Tip: Rooms on the SECOND FLOOR is worth the stay.

Last August we stayed at Sapphire Suites, Kolkata.

This is a decent hotel with good amenities. This hotel is in a central place in Kolkata, next to Suit Bazaar where they auction chickens in the morning.

We arrived there late around 9.30 PM. There was no one at the gate. We were a little worried. The taxi driver helped us to get in. We had to carry our entire luggage upstairs. We waited for more than 15 minutes as the only receptionist was busy arguing with a French couple. We had two rooms and I had mentioned that in the booking, even so they put the kids on the first floor and us on second.

We asked about hot water for bathing and realized the water is not hot. We complained and after waiting 15 minutes we got hot water.

The next day, they did not give us new towels. When I asked about towels, first they said, all towels were sent for washing. After requesting repeatedly, they send us new towels.

Sometimes, WIFI did not work in our room. They fixed that problem and WIFI was working ok after that.

The food in the restaurant was good. The waiters and the people running the restaurant were humble.

The rooms and bathrooms were clean.

When we were leaving, the manager would not clear our account as we booked them over the internet. I showed him the Expedia receipt and even the credit card charge. He gave us a very tough time. Finally, he let us go and somebody from their office called us to apologize for the inconvenience.

The hotel rooms were good , but the hospitality was absent . If they train their staff well, I think this can be a very good hotel.

Room Tip: Some deluxe room has very good view

The booking to this hotel was my first time online. it is a very good hotel. The only problem is its locality and the passage which you have to find out because of its narrowness. Its located on the main street of New Market Area and well known to local taxis and people.Cleanliness is good. Friendly staff.. But room size is little small. Food is extremely good. I liked there biryani a lot. Very comfortable bedding. air conditioning is superb. Inside passage is very narrow and suffocated.Parking problem is there.
