Description: "The green-grilled mishti shop at 56 Ramdulal Street is simply called Nakur, short and (very) sweet. Peering through the iron, glasses perched on his nose, Victor picks up one of their best-selling items, Jol Bhora Norom Pak, gives them a thumbs up, and gulps down the sandesh. From a two-item menu consisting of Kada Pak and Monda back in 1844, to 2010 where Chocolate Sandesh can compete for the number one spot, Nakur has come a long way." -- The Telegraph.

“Who said Bengali sweets are just Rosogollas?”

Girish-Nokur as the place is commonly known is the place for trying out sandesh in its many variations. The subtle flavours, the quality of the raw-material, the not-too-sweet taste are distinctive for this place. The ambience carries the stamp of vintage. Don't miss!

“Best For People with a sweet tooth”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2013

There is nothing special about this place and it is a shop. It was a sunday and I was wondering if this place would be open. I phoned the place and there was no reply. After some time I got a call back and I asked whether the restaurant was open. I was the owner who clarified that it was not a restaurant and they are open. You can buy the sweets and you can eat them but there is no place to sit and we were welcome. The location is difficult to find. Get down at Girish Park Metro Station. Walk back away from the city and take a right turn. Keep walking and after approx 1 km there you are. Very simple place but fantastic taste. I tasted everything there which I had never eaten before. I asked for everything they had. The best I liked was Black Currant Sandesh. Go for it if you are in Kolkata. It fills you with joy.

“It cannot get better than this....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

The shop is not located on one of the big roads so not very easy to find...saying that just ask any one and no one will let u down. The shop does have look of a shop pre-independence era shops had. The sales counter is not that big but once you start telling them what kind of sweet(hard types or soft ones) you want you will be amazed. The quality is top notch and you be floored with the freshness of the sweets. The price is really affordable and you just cannot stop eating one after the other.

“The last frontier in Sandesh”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

If you visit the shop, you experience a package consisting of the product (sandesh), the process of preparation of sandesh with equipment and technology, the workers, the shop-owners, the surroundings of north Kolkata. When you stand on the small queue to buy sandesh, you may think of the history associated with the 'Nakur' on Ramdulal Sarkar street. The original, simple milk-white sweets made primarily out of cottage cheese and sugar are available in two types: 'naram pak' (soft) and 'kara pak' (hard). Product development efforts led to use of chocolate, fruit pulp, etc. and newer varieties of sandesh are being sold. Recently, a fusion item of Cake and Sandesh has been marketed by 'Nakur'. Sandesh of 'Nakur' stands out in taste and can be compared with the best. Price-wise too sandesh compares favorably with pastries or other confectionery items. 'Nakur' has evolved as an institution in Kolkata and is much more than a mere sweet shop.
