Description: "The green-grilled mishti shop at 56 Ramdulal Street is simply called Nakur, short and (very) sweet. Peering through the iron, glasses perched on his nose, Victor picks up one of their best-selling items, Jol Bhora Norom Pak, gives them a thumbs up, and gulps down the sandesh. From a two-item menu consisting of Kada Pak and Monda back in 1844, to 2010 where Chocolate Sandesh can compete for the number one spot, Nakur has come a long way." -- The Telegraph.

“A Gastronomical Paradise”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

We Bengalis, take pride in our kind of sweets - specially Sandesh and Rasgullas. This Girish and Nakur shop is said to have invented Sandesh in good old days. The shop exists in the same place for more than hundred years. The taste of sweets, specially Sandesh, prepared by them is out of the world and no word is enough to describe the taste. Every year, in Kolkata, we have poles to determine the best sweetmeat shop under different catagories and this shop owners must have become tired of winning first prizes in such poles. I would reccomend every tourist, willing to taste true Bengali sweets to visit this shop, located right beside the famous Bethune School for Girls.

“What made Bengali community so sweet !”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

Bengali community cannot live without having at least one sweet a day. Each meal they love to finish with sweets right from the B'fast. That could be the main reasons of such varities available in each and every shop around the " City Of Joy ". Girish & Nakul sweet shop is famous for different kinds of " sandesh " especially their Nalen Gur (a special kind of molasses made out of date tree extract) items. These sweets will melt in the mouth in no time but will leave its essence for an hour. No Swiss or Dutch make chocolates can even replace that heavenly taste !!!

“Difficult to find”
Reviewed November 22, 2012 via mobile

Though the sweets were very good quality but the location is very very difficult to find. We had to ask atleast five people for the direction of the street, but ultimately had to call the shop, who knows only Bengali, to our rescue.
This is not the place for Tourists like us, but for the local people who are familiar with the area and also knows Bangali language.
