Description: "The green-grilled mishti shop at 56 Ramdulal Street is simply called Nakur, short and (very) sweet. Peering through the iron, glasses perched on his nose, Victor picks up one of their best-selling items, Jol Bhora Norom Pak, gives them a thumbs up, and gulps down the sandesh. From a two-item menu consisting of Kada Pak and Monda back in 1844, to 2010 where Chocolate Sandesh can compete for the number one spot, Nakur has come a long way." -- The Telegraph.

I am so floored by this shop that all I can say is.... if Apple made bengali mishti's, this is what they would probably taste like!

I am the third generation patronizing this heaven for Sandesh lovers and would surely recommend this shop for every visitor to the city.

This is one of the oldest sweet shops of Kolkata and almost a part of the city's heritage and culture. Older generations still swear by it's superb taste and quality.
But now, the tastes of some of its variety Sandesh could be good but some are really average to bad. Especially the chocolate sandesh is really not up to the mark. It tastes hard and the taste of the chocolate doesnt really gel well with the rest of the sweet. One can find better variety of such sweets elsewhere. Also some of its other kheer topped sandesh (with a hard coating) is nothing to write about.
Many say sandesh making is a form of a rare culinary art which few people can master. Earlier the skills were passed down from one generation to another. Perhaps this is what lacks in todays world. Perhaps it is the skill of the people who used to make these sweets a generation earlier and those who do today are what makes the difference.

It is simply horrifying to learn from a columnist that "Better Sondesh can even be found at Haldiram Prabhuji in VIP road."
My request is Dear Sir if u simply don't know anything about the " Nakur's" sandesh then its simply better to keep shut.
Someone who really wants to know what a Sandesh really is, will definately reach their Shop.
Outsiders from kolkata is suggested to try out the " Narom Paak " or the " Soft / Rare cooked " ones. They are simply heavenly and out of this world.
Try the yellow one with a saffron and pistachio toppings on it..........Mmmm ..... Try out the " Chandrapuli " during the festive season in kolkata...... Simply awsome.....
That does not mean that rest are not good. All varities that are being displayed there have an individual characteristics of their own. If u can try each of them......( Diabetics Pls Avoid this review)

If you are in Kolkata and looking for a replacement of the European chocolates to sooth your cravings for sweets, then you will have to take the trouble to search out this not so big, space wise, sweet shop in North Calcutta, off Cornwalis Street and very near 'Hedua' on Beadon Street. No idea if Swami Vivekananda, whose ancestral house is very near by, was also fond of their sweets, but they sure make excellent sweet-meats, which can make you an addict.
