Great hotel. Very cheap, theirs hot water and seconds away from wi-fi cafes. My room was a double AC and i have no complaints atall. Book in advance if you can as its very popular. If your going when Holi Festival of colour is going to be on then your be in a great location as your right next to the main street and the dancing and music actually goes right passed the hotel. The staff and management are very helpful. If you have any problems just ask Harry the manager for help. Its also located 20mins walk away from the Mother Teresa House so if your thinking of volunteering its a good place to be staying. Its also walking distance to the river, Victoria memorial and India museum. Theirs market stools very close by if you wanted to do any shopping. Theirs lots of travelers staying in this hotel so theirs plenty of opportunity to meet new people and also meet the locals. Yoga classes are on in the morning i went to a class and loved it. Again just ask the staff for details their always happy to help

This is a very inexpensive hotel and while it doesnt provide any luxuries it does provide all the basics you need. Ive stayed in far more expensive places and still not managed to get hot water so I was impressed with the great hot water supply here. My room had a fair bit of mould but like I said i still think you cant complain when you get a room at this exceptional price. It was in a great location, we felt safe and the owners were very polite. I would stay here again.

After traveling round India and experiencing a whole range of different good, bad and even ugly hotels this place was such a find! Really friendly and helpful staff. Very clean with comfortable beds, fresh sheets, shower and HOT water.

Location is very central but just off busy Sudder street so not too noisy, perfect place to recuperate for the night.

After checking out several other places on Sudder street before the standard of this place for the price was far superior!

Stay in calcuta was one of the most amazing experiences in our lifes in all the ways. We went to hotel galaxy recommended for a friend. Its the best hotel in the zone in relation of price-quality. Its also the center point of the volunteers in mother teresas house. It's very well situated. You cannot miss to go there. The staff was the best of the hotel, Harry, the propietry is a lovely person, he brought us to do yoga in mornings, it was a great experience! We recommend it to everybody who search for a different experience!

Room Tip: Not every room has A/C, try to book earlier because a lot of travellers go there. It's one of th...

We stayed at the Galaxy for 7 nights. Our room was ready when we arrived late at night. A hot shower and a western toilet were important to us and this hotel had both as well as a great room air conditioner! The owner was very friendly and helpful. The location is convenient yet quiet. Just a block of Sudder, it was a quick walk to restaurants or the subway. Our room had tubs that we could use to hand wash our clothing and clotheslines to hang them to dry. Simple and clean. It was great to meet other guests from around the world! I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed downstairs in a room with an airconditioner.

I can only add my praises to others comments. We had a great time here. Stayed for 6 nights in a double room with attached bath. Simple and met all our needs. The Sikh brothers who run the place are fantastic--friendly, helpful and warm. One of them found me a map of Kolkata, helped me estimate taxi fees and showed me how to get to Tagore's house and college street. The whole atmosphere of the place just feels good. It's obviously well organized and carefully run. We had hot water, a clean bathroom and a clean room. What more could you want? The price for us was 4800 rupees less than $80 US dollars for 6 days. Fine by me. It's a little more if you need A/C which we didn't in January.
The location was also great. A little tucked away on Stuart Lane but near Park Ave. and lots of eating spots cheap and more expensive. It's also quite near the Park Metro stop which came in handy.
We had a little noise at night from the way the room was situated next to other rooms. I didn't notice it for more than half an hour though when people were coming and going in the evening. I think it closes at 10 pm so people settled in early. It didn't affect my sleep. No traffic noise to speak of.
Heartily recommend this place. Reserve in advance. Email Surinder Singh hotelgalaxy.kol@gmail.com

Stayed for two nights in transit. Booked two rooms for my family, well in advance. Very clean, secure/safe establishment - relief to arrive at. Difficult for taxi drivers from airport to find at night - need to show map provided when booking online. Rooms large with reasonably comfortable beds, though far from soundproof. TV in one room not operating for duration of stay. Management - particularly Harry - very generous and helpful. Well-located, with some decent food, including a reasonably-priced Bengali restaurant and good bakery only a short walk away, as well as a supermarket. Not impressed with front desk staff, who ordered taxis to airport at much inflated costs, with who he asserted was a 'regular driver' for the hotel - said driver then attempted to scam us for further cash, claiming non-existent additional airport charges. Otherwise, Galaxy Hotel a generally positve experience.
