We stayed at the Kenilworth as our first stop of a 17 day trip across India. As other reviewrers have explained the hotel has an older wing from the time of the 'Britishers' and a 1970s style block with the main accomodation in it.
Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean and although the view was of an adjacent run down building with dirty towels hanging on washimg lines and men (no women) washing and dressing outside...it had a very odd sort of indian charm. It is after all a working city.
We ate in the a la carte restaurant on the first night (the buffet was closed due to a wedding taking place in the garden... wonderful to see !!) and the food was excellent, however, it was very expensive and the waitress was constantly trying to 'up sell' us extras we didnt really want, slightly annoying!
The second night we opted for the buffet which was much better value and eating this in the garden on a lovely balmy evening was extra special.
We enjoyed our stay at the Kenilworth very much and would have no hesitation in staying again and reccommending it to anyone visiting this lovely, crazy city.

I stayed at this hotel for a night in February 2011. The laundry forgot to deliver my clothes ! had to board the flight to Mumbai without taking delivery of washed clothes from in-house laundry of the hotel. A day after that I received a phone call from laundry, asking for the washing charges before they courier me the washed clothes.

The rooms had a 5 star luxury at a 4 star price. Extremely comfortable. Service was also good.. We arrived pretty late and the restaurant was closed. On our request, they could manage some food. Overall, nice business stay and a definite recommendation from my side.

The hotel is far from the airport, but centrally located for the purposes of business or shopping. It consists of two blocks designed in contrasting styles, both pre-Independence British and modern Indian. The blocks are separated by a landscaped garden, which is covered and where we can relax in the evenings. The restaurant is located on the ground floor and we can have a relaxed dinner outside on the lawn, listening to live western music. The music is usually the Golden Oldies and a treat for anyone over 35.
The rooms are spacious, especially those in the old wing, which remind you of the huge British bungalows of pre-Independence era.
The service is the one sore point on an otherwise enjoyable stay. It is equally bad in the restaurant and the rooms service. So be prepared to wait awhile after placing your order.
There is no pool in the hotel, which would definitely add to its value.

We spent a day at The New Kenilworth in Kolkata. This purpose of our trip was to celebrate my son's birthday, who has turned '4.' We had booked the lawn in the hotel to host a birthday party for his friends and some of ours, comprising a guest list of 150 people. Such a charming garden! The best location that I could spot in Kolkata.

The management at the hotel took very good care of us and made sure all arrangements for the party were perfect. The food was great and the service impeccable.

I would also highly recommend the coffee shop ' aromas.' We had the buffet lunch there which was quiet good. Overall our experience at The New Kenilworth was unforgettable.
