Its a different kinda hotel. Not 5 star as they claim but comfortably luxurious. Its still quite new so nice. Nice looby and good food yet small and cozy. ( only 60 odd rooms).
No views but location was quite convenient for my work. Park Street also quite close. Recommended,.

Room Tip: No views but take a back room as front could be a bit noisy.

Recently stayed at the Chrome Hotel on a short weekend to Kolkata. The hotel is nicely set out and the room was very comfortable. The hotel makes a point of the comfort of the bed and they are not wrong, not sure how they do it but it was very very comfortable. The room was also very nice. The bar on the top floor was very quiet and therefore lacking atmosphere. A nice hotel, I recommend it strongly.

Went back to Cal recently after a long gap and did a quick search for a good hotel in central location. Chrome seemed to fit the bill however should've looked at the other reviews closely. It's bang in the middle of a very congested road on AJC Bose Road. Getting in and out of the hotel is nightmarish and our cab almost knocked down couple of pedestrians. It's a small boutique hotel (pics make it look way larger than it actually is), rooms are smallish but ok and couldn't find much fault in the decor. The problem lies in soundproofing. One can constantly hear the loud traffic with horns blaring all the time. Breakfast is average fare however when we were there the restaurants were closed so we had to look at alternate arrangements for lunch/dinner. Overall experience is just average. ok if you have a 1 night say but for longer stay I'd recommend you look for other options.

I was referred to this hotel by my Lonely Planet Guide to India and I spent two nights here in March of 2012. The service and location were excellent and the restaurant was very good as well. The interior was simple, but beautiful. It is a 4-star, and I found it to be a great value for the money. It didn't have a lot of extras, but it is in an urban area without a lot of extra space, for a pool or spa. It is ideal for a business traveler who must travel to various Kolkata area locations. There is wifi in the rooms, so bring your own computer or tablet, because the business center is pretty small.

I stayed at The Chrome, 226, AJC Bose Road, Kolkata for a business conference from February 21,2013 evening to February 23,2013.

Check in was smooth and flawless. But, something is amiss. This is the impression I had as I checked in. At such a fantastic happening location in Kolkata, I realized the Coffee Shop at the lobby was virtually empty.

They offered me a Wi-Fi Password, which was not functioning and hence was of no use to me.

The rooms are chic. But lighting not so bright and gave an overall dull feel. The colors used are too dark not only on walls but also their envelopes which were bluish black. The bed linen and towels need an urgent replacement. The beds are tad on softer side and perhaps they too need a change.

The good thing was their bathroom was functional and the hot water literally hot! The Rain Shower makes sure you wake up. Consumable toiletries reminded me of Test Tubes in Pathological Lab.

People at the Chrome were truly good. They took care of our requirements be at the Banquet halls or at the Laundry or Front Office or Housekeeping etc. People showed an interest to make the guest comfortable. Particularly worth mentioning are Kaustav and Premjit of Banquets. However, the Banquet Hall is darkly lit [one side of the wall had black wall made with cushion] and for serious Facilitation Workshops which I conduct , the lighting ought to be brighter and crisper.

The Dinner at the restaurant was acceptable and there is nothing anti to mention. Li the Captain took care in whatever way he could. And as usual, there were no South Indian items on the menu. Even at the Breakfast spread, there weren’t many South Indian items and I had to whet my appetite with Corn Flakes, Parathas, Fruits etc.

And oh yes, I was more than surprised to see the bouquet of channels offered. It was whopping and I never missed anything that I wanted to. And Rabindra Sadan Metro Station is just a few minutes away by walk so you can go around comfortably in Kolkata at a pretty low cost.

Given the location and the tariff I paid, I wish to see Chrome being more livelier and living up to its affiliation with Small Luxury Hotels of the World. I would be more than delighted to see The Chrome turn into a real luxury hotel in the wonderful city of Kolkata.

One question as I conclude my views comes across is have I got the wrong end of the stick during my stay? Because many of my fellow travelers who have stayed the Chrome between January-February 2013 seem to be having a very different views and experiences altogether!!

We stayed in Chrome for 2 nights in February. We were booked in the standard room. However, when we checked in at 1pm, we were told that the room wasn't ready as they had a late check out. The reception staff though upgraded us to the Executive room - which was wonderful. The room is bigger and the bed very comfortable. Its definitely a good hotel to stay in if you want to spend time in park street. The staff is helpful and the breakfast was one of the best I have had anywhere. Simply loved it!

Room Tip: If budget permits, go for the executive room.

Almost everything about this hotel is perfect whether its food or service or cleanliness. Rooms are beautifully designed based on themes. Sleep quality is excellent. Breakfast is great and USP is grilled fish. Loved my 2 nights stay.

Room Tip: Floor 5 and up..
