This is one hotel where you can get class hospitality. Service is best among. Room No 601 and 602 is the best to stay. Complete wood work...with total privacy on the top floor. Excellent view from the sun deck. It is your private terrace. LCD, DVD, Microwave, mini bar makes you feel at home. Hotel staff are very courteous and service is prompt. Fire place in the room make sure you stay warm, also hot bags provided. Staff at restaurant is great and the food was awsome...Breakfast/Dinner - both were great. Would never want to stay anywhere else. Please discard all negative reviews about this hotel. I would like to thank the staff for making my honeymoon a special one. The hotel is far better than it is displayed on the website.

My business partner and I got the King and Queen rooms up on the top floor and stayed for 4 nights at the end of November. We walked in off the street and hadn't see any of the tripadvisor reviews in advance, so didn't know what to expect. First, a couple of minor gripes about this hotel:

1. They have free wi-fi, but there's only a router in the lobby so you can't get internet throughout the hotel, which was frustrating.

2. The lift goes from the 1st floor, not the ground floor and ends on the 5th floor, but there's 6 floors. Daft. Also, the lift stops working during power cuts, which are frequent.

But on the plus side the rooms we stayed in were big and comfortable, with big beds, open fires which they light in the cold evenings, flat screen TVs with DVD players and a well stocked minibar. The staff were very friendly and the food wasn't bad - very good Gulab Jamun! You can get a beer with dinner and via room service, which was good for us as Darjeeling was dry when we were there. The bathrooms are big and well supplied with complimentary toiletries, and the housekeeping staff make sure everything is kept spick and span.

We paid about $80 half-board, which we felt was excellent value. If you wan't to splurge somewhere in Darjeeling and son't fancy the colonial stuffyness of the windamere or the elgin, then the Viceroy is probably your best bet! The only other slight negative is that the lobby and the atrium are tacky and very cold in the winter months.

It is the best hotel in Darjeeling where you can pamper yourself with the luxury. The interiors are very cosy and warm. The complete wooden finsh gives you much needed relief when you enter from chilling outside.
Proximity to the Mall , shopping and entertainment zone makes it much wanted. You can purchase souveniers while you are on a stroll after your
From the roof top you get a breath taking of Darjeeling and an un obstructed view of the Kanchenjungas, totally snow capped. It would definitely make you feel on the top of the world after all you are standing 8000 feet above sea level facing the mighty Himalayas.
If you get the room with window facing the kanchenjungas you are in for ultimate sceneic delight. But you have to get up before the sunrise and withdraw your curtains and then just lie back on your bed with a cup of cofee and camera. As the sun rises the kunchenjunga glows changing colours from red to golden to white, you have lived your life.

If you are going for the vacation and enjoyment then Viceroy is the worst choice. But if you are going for any business meetings or related work then you can think of this hotel but still not worth of its prices.
The hotel is not at all worth as compare to the charges that they are taking. Rooms and toilets are very very small and and toilets are blocking. There is no good view from any corner of the hotel. you feel as if you are locked in a central jail. The hotel is centrally located and is very near to mall road. So you get all crowd noise all the time and traffic and pollution and dust all the time. Jeeps starts at 4 o'clock in the morning for Tiger Hill sunrise and the road that goes from Vice roy just gets blocked with all jeeps with honking and pollution. So you get awake because of all these noises.
It was a bad choice of us that we spoiled our vacation in Darjeeling. Management is also not co operative. They are money minded people. This hotel according to its rooms\location\ambience should not charge more than 2500 Rs. where they are charging more than 5500. Its not at all woth and advisable to spend the vacation here.
Some good recommendations : Mayfair, Windamere, elgin - best choices to stay in darjeeling

I found the Viceroy hotel, one of the best hotels in the Darjeeling city....unfortunately most of the hotels at Darjeeling are not neat and clean....however, hotel viceroy is different, this is one of hotels that I found not only neat and clean but also a class hotel....so if you are going to Darjeeling....just go for Hotel Viceroy...
