“Great views, comfort and staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2010

We chose this hotel due to its attic room reviews. Therefore we decided to book the attic room to get the best views of the mountain range.
We arrived at Bagdogra airport to find our friendly driver waiting for us. We took an amazing 3 1/2 hr jeep ride through the mountains to darjeeling. We were greeted by friendly staff and very good service. They showed us our room on the 2nd floor for the 1st night as we couldnt get the attic room every night. The room was very clean, a little dated, with a small balcony with slight view. Do not expect a modern hotel as this place is very dated but has a warm, comfortable feel about it. Each room has its own portable radiator as the building has no central heating and it gets VERY cold in the middle of the night.
We moved to our second room (attic room) for the final 4 nights. The room views did not dissapoint. From our bed, we had a panoramic view of the mountains to wake up to each day with our complimentary 'bed tea' delivered to us (nice touch).
The breakfast is very good at this hotel and does very nice western continental eggs, toast, hash browns and baked beans each morning.
We ordered food at the restaurant (which comes from the sister restaurant down the road) and it took over an hour to arrive. The food was good but obviously not frsh, so a few nights later we decided to go to the restaurant to eat. Very good food and nice atmosphere at a good price. We ended up eating from the restaurant 4 out of the 5 nights.
Overall the best aspect of this hotel would be the service. Everyone greets you with a smile and there is no hesitation when it comes to satisfying their customers. I would reccomend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay at a cozy, family run hotel with good views and good service. Darjeeling itself is a magical place and staying at this hotel makes it worth the long trek to get there.

This Hotel is located close to the Darjeeling Market but a bit far from the Darjeeling Railway Station. I stayed here with my wife and I must say that this is a very good place to stay. The staff are helpful in nature.
This Hotel however does not have a very good restaurant attached and this is one of the disadvantages.
The view offered by this offer is absolutely fantastic and you can just sit down in your room, relax and enjoy the snow clad mountains.
The Best part of this Hotel is that you can confirm your bookings online..

A very comfortable place to stay. The best part was the provision of addtional bed just at the entry of the room. The room had a balcony although we were not able to sit there due to cold. The staff was extremely courteous and polite and food was nice. They also have a small collection of books in the roof top Eating Facility. The service was fast and timely. Overall a very nice experience.

Moved here from Snow Lion as they could not accommodate us for the entire time we wished. Glad we moved I only to be warm! Pretty clean beds (but cover had huge stain of something that had spilled on it). Had to ask for towels to be changed as they were actually filthy! Floor dusty with hairs of previous occupiers everywhere! Shower ran cold after one shower (there were two of us). I had an insect in my food at breakfast one morning which didn't give me confidence about the kitchen cleanliness! On more positive note the receptionist (manager?)was very good and very attentive. All staff were pretty good to be fair. Not too bad a hotel (by Indian standards!!)

Stayed in the Hotel and Restaurant Shangrila- owned by the same guys but in the main bazaar. Excellent standard of rooms, more like a guest house, great service from friendly and attentive staff. Breakfast always prompt and rooms cleaned daily. Beds very comfortable too.
Stored our stuff when went trekking no problem.
The position of the hotel is excellent just down from the Chowrasta and sited where most tourists would want to be. Some people have commented on the noise from the main bazaar underneath the windows but we did not find this a problem at all.
We did hear packs of dogs barking most nights for long periods which was annoying, they appeared to be going off like dominoes all over the town! I believe there are castration teams roaming!
Restaurant food downstairs was very good too and reasonably priced probably the best in the vicinity.
There are only 4 rooms so you don't feel crowded. Comfortable but pricey rooms, worth the extra level if not on a budget. If we returned to Darjeeling this would again be our choice.

Pretty much everything about our stay was good, the airport pick-up and arrival at the hotel were well managed and the room ( thrird floor at the front) was very clean and comfortable. Despite the fact that there is the skeleton of a new building at the front the views are still good. Some people on Tripadvisor had commented on food/drink service at the hotel. While it was not fast it was certainly OK and being in the upstairs lounge gave great views and the time to chat to other travellers so that was fine. We only ate breakfast at the hotel not any other meals. All in all realy good then , the only slight downside being the noise from the two dogs next door and the sound on vehicle horns early in the morning, however I imagine that you would have to be well out of Darjeeling to get a perfectly calm night !

Shangri-la Regency is an excellent hotel from all aspects. We stayed hear for 4 nights and found everything just perfect. Be it the room quality, staff, cleanliness or food, everything was amazing. The rooms are sufficiently spacious, the interiors are simple yet elegant and the small balcony with Kanchanganga view is apt for having morning tea and breakfast. The location of the hotel(very close to Mall road, Chowrasta and Taxi stand) is a big plus point as one can easily move out for site seeing, food, shopping etc. The hotel is definitely value for money.
