You might have seen several paintings and several embroideries but have you seen painting through embroidery? I had not and the first time I ever saw it , was in the Ava Art Gallery. Unfortunately, taking snaps is not allowed, hence no pics, but at entry ticket of just 2/-, it’s a must if you want to see something unique.
The beauty of the paintings lies in the details and finery. She has embroidered something which we can't even see without magnifying lens, wonder how she did it !!
It’s a small museum housed, probably in the late artist's daughter's home who is maintaining this gallery, but something needs to be done urgently. Its in bad condition with dust covering everything on display. If funds are needed, entry fee can easily be raised, as 2/- doesn’t mean anything these days.
They have stopped selling the paintings after the artist died. It is something which should be seen by everyone who visits Darjeeling. Its near to Chowrasta and local taxi drivers seem to be aware of it. Go and spend some time there and marvel at her finesse.
