“A good experience in some aspects.”
Reviewed April 26, 2012

A good experience in some aspects. In a strategically beneficial location in the centre of Darjeeling, it is in a great setting for any tourist visiting the town. The location was well-chosen, with coniferous forests, the hills and the town all in close proximity to the hotel. Mount Kachenjunga can be viewed from a few select rooms if the weather is clear. The restaurant has delicious and fresh traditional food in the evenings at 'Terrace garden' as all food is specifically prepared fresh there, but the breakfasts weren't that good and should include some more continental options. Tea is good as Darjeeling is famous for it. Service staff linger outside in the main hall doing nothing but that can be beneficial at times. The rooms were like mini-apartments (rooms 201 and 107) with a good shower and a small TV. The only bad point was the mould-encrusted blankets, so for anyone with allergies it can prove to be a very irritating night. Good drivers employed, especially on the poor roads. Altogether, a good experience.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing Mt Kanchenjunga and also rooms facing the hillside and the town since these can...

My first impression of Cedar Inn was of the hospitable staff who made us comfortable and welcome .We had arrived from Pelling after a gruelling 7-8 hours on road.
Cedar has the old world charm and the rooms have fireplaces to keep you warm
View from the room is of the great Kanchenzonga which takes your breath away !

Food in general is good with a choice between Indian and continental .Location is also very good.Though it is not on the mall road , it is a mere 5-7 minutes driving distance

Room Tip: choose a room with a view of the Kanchenzonga so that you can sip a hot cup of darjeeling tea just l...

View of Kanchenjunga from the window, the bon fire in the room and the lush green garden is what makes "Cedar Inn' a place to be in Darjeeling. The cottages are neat and clean and the chirping of birds around would add excitement to your stay. Friendly staff too !!. But the food options are limited for Veggies.

Room Tip: Chose the cottage which has the view of Kanchenjunga !!!

The hotel is up in the hills but there is no problem to get a taxi from down below at the mall.
great food! dinner has to be ordered until 18 h, they change the menu every day (no menu card, you hear about the dishes of the day in the lobby.
definitely try Indian food for breakfast if offered! I prefered it to the egg varieties!!
bar opens if you ask!! (until 9 p.m.)
very nice garden and staff is also very very nice!
wifi in the lobby. also have shuttle service to the mall if needed.
the room we had was also very nice with sitting area and you could smoke in the room as well (windows to open)
would definitely stay there again!

I along with my wife and two kids stayed at this CHARMING and Beautiful Hotel in the Hills of Darjeeling.

The Hotel is unique as same is Built on one of the Hills only. The staff and Front office is very courtseious. It is cost worthy and very GOOD food also.

I would recommed and infact recommended the same to my Friends/relatives also.

Look at the photo, and its exactly like this. Though its better known competitor Windermere is more charming and romantic, I would still rate Cedar Hill as the best Hotel In Darjeeling. Imposing building, Elegant interiors, very neat and clean, very good dinner, breakfast limited but very tasty, and the location is just perfect. It towers over Darjeeling at the top of a hill, away from the filthy mess that is Darjeeling, its got a shuttle service to the main square which is quite regular.

The one point lacking is that the management gives a very polite planned no if you ask for any minor facility. But that doesnt matter because they do their main job efficiently, and you get more than what you have paid for. The junior staff is very good, restaurant and housekeeping is excellent.
