I recently stayed at the Mayfair, Darjeeling and I recommend it to everyone who wants to be part of an ethereal experience amongst nature. Nestled among the darjeeling hills, this hotel is a treasure trove of lush landscapes, impeccable service and scrumptious cuisine.
It was my first trip to this part of India and I couldn't have selected a better hotel to play a host to my blissful experience. The minute you check it, you can feel the warmth of the hospitality department. The entire staff makes you feel like royalty and I must also mention that this hotel houses a celebrity, Don the St Bernard, who has won several competitions in the area. Being a dog lover, it was an abosolute treat to spend time with him.
On the morning of 13th Feb, my last day at this wonderful hotel, I woke up to a snow covered paradise, which left me awestruck. I couldn't believe that any place in this world was meant to be so beautiful. It was such a memorable parting gift, that it has been forever etched in my heart as a hotel which is capable of allowing you to embark on a beautiful fantasy and makes you never want to check out.
All I can do is share this wonderful experience with fellow travellers, as such beauty and quality is meant to be enjoyed by all!

We stayed for 3 days at Mayfair and this was one of the memorable stays we had. Excellant rooms and great food. Very friendly staff. Only difficulty i felt is the walk from the mall, but the location is so cool and unwinding.. a perfect place at a perfect price..

This was a really really nice place to stay at, compared to the other hotels in the area. The rooms are well maintained, the staff as stated in other reviews, very polite and the public areas are very inviting, warm and cozy. They have cute little sitting areas all over and wonderful landscaping. One thing I would recommend is considering staying for board only and getting your meals outside if you like walking...we did that and was glad cause their fixed menu was not very innovative. We did have breakfast once and the food was very ordinary.
Would stay here again...feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I have been fortunate enough to stay at the Mayfair twice, once in 2003, and once in 2005. I cannot praise this hotel highly enough! On both occasions I found the hotel extremely welcoming. The staff are attentive without being overbearing. The food is excellent. If I ever get to Darjeeling again, there's only one hotel for me!

We stayed here before and after taking a trek in the Himalayas and enjoyed ourselves very much. Its a beautiful hotel - very English style - very much what you want from a stay in Darjeeling. The gardens are absolutely lovely with fantastic mountain and valley views - quite breathtaking. It is well placed for sightseeing in the town. The rooms are very good. We stayed both in the main hotel and in a cottage. The cottage (we were 2 adults, 2 children) was spacious with its own fireplace. Actually all the rooms had working fireplaces. Every evening one of the staff would come along and light the fire and would leave a barrel of coal for you. And they put chintz covered hot water bottles in the beds. Didn't really need them in April (although it got chilly) but it was a lovely touch. The meals were a bit of a slice from the past. Some nights very British, with custard and roast beef. Some nights Chinese, some Indian. The portions were very big. The rooms were also very lovely, furnished with antiques.
We got stuck here for several days as the result of a strike and the staff just couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful - we were the last ones left there and they kept open for us. It felt like a private home.
Would recommend. Much better than the more famous Windermere.
