stayed for 3 nights 4 days in this property from 22nd to 25 june 2013 this place is around 20 -25 min away from the mall and on a steep climb really steep . but is not much of a bother once you reach the place the people here keep you really comfortable with warm and courteous behavior especially tashi , no 4-5 star amenities but the scenic beauty and old world charm makes your stay here memorable
they have rooms with fire place with separate sitting and bedroom . the people here take care of your every small need .
food is okay not great.
all over a nice and pleasant and splendid property except for the steep climb . which turns out to be the sore point to otherwise brilliant location . taxis charge rs 200 to drop you here . over all full satisfaction guaranteed.

Room Tip: go for the rooms on the 1st floor they have good view . avoid ground floor one. though I myself stay...

1) This is not a Hotel ,but a old house with 4 rooms.
2) High price of Five Star hotel for a Log Hut.
3) No Food availability . If you order custom made food the
same is costlier then Five Star Hotel.
4) Hotel is Far from the Market and very steep Clime to reach from
main road.
5) Choose other option or regret later for your mistake

Dear Sir,
We would all like to thank you for choosing to stay with us.
We are very sorry if our Resort, which is more than 135 years of finest Heritage British Villa, tastefully restored to its full splendor ,did not appeal to your taste.
It consist of 4 charming suites, each suite consist of functional fireplace both in the living room and bed room with large attached bathroom fitted with modern amenities.
We admit it looks different from the swanky modern architecture hotels. The photographs of the Resort are clearly displayed in our website: www.dekeling.com and trip advisor page.
We apologize if you found the Resort like Log Hut and did not appeal to your taste.
Our Resort suite tariff is Rs. 3800 + additional taxes and the same is clearly mentioned and same rate is charged.
Our in-house restaurant has an appealing menu which serves freshly cooked food at a very reasonable rate ranging from Rs. 20 to 150. Considering all essential supplies being brought from the plains , all hill stations are more expensive as compared to prices in the plains. We hope you would understand our problem.
We regret to learn that, you did not approve of our location, which is 20 minutes walk from the Mall, away from the maddening crowd. The Resort is perched on a small hill with a most amazing view and serene tranquility which enlivens one's spirits and gives one, the real feel of being in a Hill Station. It is motorable right up to the main entrance of the Resort.
Wishing you many pleasant holidays with your family.
Kind Regards.
Norbu Dekeva and all the staff at Dekeling Resort.

I was supposed to spend two days in darjeeling, but I finaly spent a whole week :) and the Dekeling Resort contributed a lot in that decision! Darjeeling is mon "coup de coeur" so far in India, but the people in Dekeling, the ambiance in the resort all contributed to make my stay there simply magical. I was occupying the "attic", having an extraordinary view - every floor has a good one though (there are four I think, so be prepared to go up a lot of stairs...) overlooking the the himalayan chain of mountain. There are libraries all over, an incredible collection of books at the disposition of the guests. Really! Nice furniture, warmly decorated, and a wood stove... beautiful woodwork! An excellent buffet-breakfast is offered in the morning, with plenty of fruits, and cheese!!! and the owners and personnel are very informative about all the possible actvities in Darjeeling and its surrounding. The room may be cold at night, but we were given a hot water bag for more comfort... those little attentions, you know... and a pile of nice wood blankets to keep warm. So I recommend it so warmly I decided to write my comment in English rather than in French, to reach as much people as possible. Thanks so much to every body working there for this memorable stay!
Suzanne L.

Last year we had booked dekeling resort for four days. When we reached there, we found the following plus points:
(1) Exceelent view of mountain, (2) Small, but fairly acceptable accommodation, (3) Away from the crowd

Now, the negative points:
(1) Darjeeling is a place known for power cut throughout the day. In Dekeling resort, they are very reluctant to switch on the generator during day time. They expect the tourists to go out and spend the whole day outside. So, though we wanted to enjoy our stay in the resort, we were actually forced to go out for sight seeing.
(2) Even with generator, the geyser and room heater do not work. So you have to rise early and quickly take a bath before the power goes. At the end of the day, while going to bed, we found that a chilling bedroom and a chilling bed was waiting for us. The sleep was so uncomfortable that we could not have a sound sleep at night. Please note that I have the experience of visiting places like Kedarnath, Gangotri, etc., and then I am making this comment.
(3) In the evening, if you feel that you want to have a walk and visit the shops, etc., you always have to hire a car for going to the main market place and coming back.

No way it is a cheap accommodation. Considering all these points, I must say, it is a wastage of money staying there.

So, for us, it was a terrible experience in Dekeling resort. After two days, we had to check out and shift to Mayfair, where we really had a memorable stay for remaining two days. No power problem, excellent hospitality, only few minutes walk from the Darjeeling mall. When we decided to check out, Mr. Norbu, who is the owner of Dekeling and could not provide us with a comfortable stay in his so called 'resort', was demanding on telephone for the money of the remaining two days.

So dear travellers, please think 100 times before selecting Dekeling resort as your dream destination. Your money is hard earned, and you will definitely want it to be spent with your own satisfaction. At least I have decided not to stay there in future.

After having read several reviews, I was not too sure about this place when it was recommended to me by Cleartrip.com. First of all, it is not justified to review about this place as a hotel. It is more like a homestay ! I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the suite. It is panelled with wood top to bottom and well polished. The bedroom and the entree hall both have working fireplace, giving the English character. The bath is done up with good fittings. There was hot water round the clock. The breakfast and dinner were homely. The caretaker Tashi and his wife made up for everything else with their smile and attention. The owner Mr. Norbu, was very prompt with the arrangements he had agreed over phone. (The taxi was waiting for us at the airport, with a name placard, the dinner was prepared and ready exactly as we ordered...). He explained his plans for expansion. Overall, it is not a dilapidated place as some reviews put it. The long list of guest reviews(by mostly foriegners) in the resort log book is a fitting testimony.

Room Tip: Do not expect a five star buffet spread choice. Tashi is ready to serve you with what you exactly ne...

We had stayed 3 days from 13th May to 15th May. It was worth visting resort in Darjeeling and well maintained by Mr. Norbu and his family. It is not much crowded. When we are there only 4 rooms were there. The hotel staffs are very caring. We had a good view Kanchen junga mountain from the hotel lounge. Darjeeling is not good as it was totally spoilt due to much crowd, very narrow road and too much vehicle inside the city. It is worth staying in this resort, in case if some one wanted not to be in crowded place / hotel!

Room Tip: Take the room in the first floor as the lounge is nearer and you can relaz over there and read books...

Our first impression of Dekeling Resort was that of a British Palace! The view of the valley is fantastic! However, the overall experience was just about average. I will list a couple of main reasons (Some are in control of the resort authorities and some are not):
1. With due to respect to the old couple living there to help the tourists, I would like to mention that they were short of our expectations. e.g. they encouraged us to eat out and not try food over there, they insisted that we should have only bread-butter-jam as the breakfast. They may not be lazy but their age is not helping them to be enthusiastic.
2. Power cuts - We spent two nights there and on both nights and till 11.00 am following morning there was no power! This is a shame! We could not get hot water for bathing and there was no water in the toilets as well.
